Couple Therapy for Depression Accredited Practitioner Training April 15th & 16th 2013 April 22nd 2013 April 29th & 30th 2013 VENUE: LEEDS About the Training: This is an approximately 9 month CPD course made up of 5 days formal teaching (on the above dates) and nine months supervision which enables experienced couple practitioners (or equivalent) to practice the Couple Therapy approved as a treatment for mild to moderate depression in IAPT Services. Successful completion of the course and supervised clinical work allows accreditation as a ‘Couple Therapy for Depression IAPT Practitioner’. The training has been commissioned by NHS North of England for the Yorkshire and the Humber region and will be provided by The Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships at the Northern School of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy (NSCAP) in Leeds. About the Training Provider: The Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships developed Couple Therapy for Depression for use in IAPT Services, having been commissioned by the Department of Health to create a competencies framework for this treatment with Relate. TCCR subsequently produced the Training Course that leads to accreditation as a Couple Therapy for Depression IAPT Practitioner, and has delivered it in London, Manchester and Bristol. TCCR is currently the only fully accredited training provider for Couple Therapy for Depression. The Northern School of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy was set up by the NHS in 2003 and is now one of the largest psychotherapy training schools in the UK. NSCAP delivers training, consultancy and research for professionals and services working with children, adolescents and families including adults with mental health difficulties. NSCAP is co-ordinating the local provision of IAPT Couple Therapy for Depression training. 1 What is Couple Therapy for Depression? Based on NICE guidelines, Couple Therapy for Depression is a brief (20 session) integrative treatment for depression for couples where one of the partners is experiencing both relationship distress and depression. It has been developed by identifying best practice in a range of behavioural and other types of couple therapies evidenced in RCT effectiveness trials. Taken together these represent good clinical practice in the treatment of depression. Couple Therapy for Depression focuses on the relational aspects of depression and on factors that reduce stress and increase support within the couple. Who is eligible for the Training? The course is for practitioners who already have an initial qualification in Couple Therapy or equivalent experience of treating couple relationships, together with two years’ experience of working with couples with common mental health difficulties. This training is not for practitioners without a Couple Therapy qualification or equivalent experience. Each application must include: a completed application form (below) a statement of support from a current supervisor (below) a statement of support from your line manager (below) What are the supervision requirements? Trainees will be expected to participate in weekly supervision sessions between May 2013 and January 2014. This will be facilitated by the training team and training consultants. Supervision will be conducted in groups and may require telephone or video conferencing. Trainees will be required to submit digital recordings of therapy sessions as well as verbal reports. What accreditation will successful trainees receive? When the criteria are met, the trainee will receive: Certificate of Satisfactory Attendance after course attendance and evaluation Certificate of Completion of Practitioner Training as a Couple Therapy for Depression IAPT Practitioner after supervision and assessment of two cases, enabling them to become accredited with the British Society of Couple Psychotherapists and Counsellors – the Lead Accrediting Body for this modality. All applications will be screened by staff at NSCAP to ensure that the entry requirements of qualification, experience and setting have been met. They will be supervised by approved couple therapy for depression supervisors. Supervision will be conducted in groups and will require telephone conferencing. Trainees will be required to submit digital recordings of therapy sessions as well as verbal reports. They must be currently working with couples or able to begin immediately the 5-day course ends. Couple Therapy for Depression is a brief (20 session) integrative treatment for depression. The two training cases should last for approximately twenty sessions and include the use of the IAPT minimum data set. If couples drop out early they will need to be replaced to meet the training requirement.
