Objectives:
At the end of the educational program, participants will have a greater understanding and
knowledge of:
1. The importance of recognition and impact of maternal perinatal psychiatric illness on infant
health and development
2. Updates on current research that informs state of the art treatment of perinatal psychiatric illness
3. Current research relating mental health outcomes to social factors internationally and in the
United States
4. Physical illnesses and mental illnesses that demonstrate significant gradients in prevalence with
socioeconomic status, and how prevalence of those illnesses relates both to poverty (for
individuals) and to income inequality (compared between nations and between US states).
5. How policy impacts the delivery of mental health care in Maine
6. Recognizing polypharmacy and how to adjust care accordingly.

Spring Educational Sessions

GENERAL INFORMATION:
The educational sessions are designed to be of interest to clinicians at the interface of psychiatry
and primary care. The sessions will provide an update of clinical issues pertaining to the treatment
of mental illness at the interface of psychiatry and medical health. Clinicians, therapists, educators,
physician assistants, social workers and nurses will benefit from attending.

OVERNIGHT ROOMS: MAPP has reserved a block of rooms at the Portland Regency Hotel at
the special rate of $135 plus taxes for a deluxe room featuring either a king bed or two double beds.
The room rates are available only until March 28, 2011. After March 28th rooms are available on a
first come first serve basis and you may not receive the special group rate. You must contact the
Portland Regency Hotel directly to make reservations. Be sure to identify you are attending the
Maine Association of Psychiatric Physicians meeting to receive the special rate (800-727-3436).
Check-in is 3:00 pm and check-out is 12:00 pm, reservations must be guaranteed with a deposit of
one night’s stay by check or credit card. Cancellation may be made up to 48 hours prior to the
arrival date.
Valet Parking: $12.00 for overnight parking or $5.00 for day meetings
SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS: If you have any physical or dietary restrictions that may
require accommodations in order to fully participate in this activity please call the MAPP office

REGISTRATION REFUND POLICY: When requested in writing a full refund less a $25
administrative fee will be issued to prepaid registrants unable to attend. Refund request must be
postmarked by: April 8th.
