3. How is a “fjord” formed?
These are narrow/ deep inlets of the sea between high, rocky cliffs, Ice-age glaciers that stretched down to the sea carved the fjords out
of the mountains as they melted!
4. What is the primary for of government in Sweden? Explain this type of government!
Most Swedes are democratic with a socialist mix. In socialism the government controls and owns the means of production!
5. Which has the best climate…Greenland or Iceland?
85% of Greenland is an Ice Cap. Most areas inland are uninhabitable!
6. Who governs Greenland? How did it get its strange name?
Denmark does! The early Vikings rigged up maps to throw off explorers and settlers…many died mistakenly looking for
“Greenland”! That was a smart tricky move huh??? Most people in Greenland are Eskimos!
7. How many volcanoes are there in Iceland?
Over 100 volcanoes/ many active and more than 100 glaciers with tons of hot springs (world record)!
8. Where do real-life European reindeer live according to the text on page 280?
The Lapland’s see pg (Northern Sweden)
9. What are the French famous for and what is their major religion?
Perfumes/ jewelry like Rolex/ glassware/ furniture/ 80% of the people are Roman Catholic
10. What European country has the largest economy? Name some of their leading jobs!
Germany/ Automobiles, electronics, chemicals, optical and surgical instruments!
11. Why are East Germans still facing serious pollution issues today?
Communists dumped chemical wastes from the Soviet Union there and used low grade soft anthracite coal…idiots/

Pg 298 because the land is mainly rugged and dry/ little arable land/ only 10% of the work force are farmers/
17. What are Portugal and Spain major exporters of that goes well at diner and is only if you are

The Renaissance or re-birth of learning Science/ religion/ anatomy/ art
19. Where is “Mezzogiorno”?
In Southern Italy!
20. Why do people need boats to get anywhere in Venice, Italy?
It was built on a group of 120 small islands that are now interconnected! See pages 302&303
21. What happened to Venice in 1966 and why did it nearly destroy the entire city?
Major flooding disaster/ Helped open people eyes to how fragile and neglected the area was!
22. How have people begun to save and protect Venice for the future generations?
By digging new channels/ restoring art and statues/ Automobiles are banned from the city!
