New Innovations Feedback
Please contact Kerrie Jordan in the GME Office at (816) 983-6487 or by email at
kjjordan@cmh.edu if help is needed.
Internal Reviews
All ACGME Accredited programs, except Pediatric Pathology, will be reviewed in the near
future. Dr. Jill Moormeier from UMKC will be sending out emails to the Program Directors
with information and date to be reviewed and present at the UMKC GMEC. Pediatric Pathology
would be October 2009. The CMH GME Office can assist in preparation of supporting
documents by request. Also note that most of the information needed is in New Innovations.
Annual Program Evaluation
The educational effectiveness of all CMH training programs should be evaluated at least
annually in a systematic manner by reviewing the program goals and objectives and the
effectiveness with which they are achieved. This must be done by the Program Director, a
representative faculty, and one resident/fellow. This group will document the evaluation
process, taking into consideration written comments from the faculty, the most recent report of
the GMEC, and the resident’s evaluation results. If deficiencies are found, the group should
prepare a plan of action, which is documented in the minutes of the group meeting. This group
should also review the faculty evaluations and the certification examination performance by
graduates of the program as a way to measure program effectiveness. This process together with
resident/fellow/faculty evaluation results should be used to improve the training program. FYI,
the GME Office expects all programs to turn an annual report into them and will be asking for
such in the next few months. The GME Office will email the Program Directors the
template/example provided by Pediatric Gastroenterology last year.

Final Evaluation of Fellows
FYI, the ACGME requires a final evaluation of all fellows before departing/graduating from
fellowship program. Please utilize New Innovations to produce such and make part of the
fellow’s permanent file.
PWF’s & tracking sick/vacation/maternity/LOA
All PWF’s should be sent to the GME Office for signature before routing to HR/Payroll. New
Innovations can track all leave time and should be utilized. New Innovations allows the GME
Office to share sick time balance with HR when a fellow might start employment as staff/faculty
at CMH. Sixty days max is the number of sick days that can be carried over into staff
appointment. Also, sometimes a fellows training might be extended due to an extended leave.
Letter of Offer
Please send Kerrie Jordan in the GME a copy of the acceptance/offer letter & CV for your new
fellows in order for her to mail the welcome packet. The 09/10 new fellows will not be send
packets until Jan/Feb 2009, due to forms changing and stipend amounts not know until such
time. The 08/09 stipends are as follows. Neonatology fellows are $14,000 higher per PGY level
than what is listed.
 PGY1-$48,800
 PGY2-$51,000
 PGY3-$52,500
 PGY4-$54,500
 PGY5-$56,500
 PGY6-$58,500
Moonlighting
Fellows may moonlight upon approval. Approval form and information is on the GME website.
Moonlighting hours and hours worked at CMH must not exceed 80 hours per week, averaged
over a 4-week period. The approval form must be turned into the GME Office for approval.
Then the form is to go through the Medical Staff Office with fellow to seek privileges.
Supervision Policy
The resident/fellow supervision policy has been approved and posted to the GME web. The
policy reads as such.
The resident/fellow supervision should reflect graduated level of responsibility based on
individual skills and level of training. Supervision is understandably closer to the first year
resident/fellow in the areas of outpatient activity, answering of consultations, designing and
implementing treatment plans. Although second year resident/fellow provides some guidance
for the first year resident, the faculty verify that a solid base exists for decision making. When

appropriate the resident/fellow is assisted by the faculty. As the resident/fellows become more
senior, he/she may be allowed to work independently within their capabilities in consultation
with available faculty.
The curriculum for each fellowship program will define the level of care provided, supervision
exerted and supervision received by the fellows. It is the policy of CMH that delineation of
fellow responsibilities for patient care, progressive responsibility for patient management, and
supervision of resident over the continuum of the program is maintained. The fellow’s role is
that of a supervisor and guide to their respective interns in addition to serving as primary
providers to the patients. They will confirm or correct the intern’s impressions during their
initial history and physical examination and provide guidance in the diagnostic and therapeutic
management. They will acquire required knowledge through supervised performance of
consultations, daily hospital rounds and active participation in procedures under the supervision
of attending faculty. They will make clinical decisions and will participate in research projects
as applicable to their program requirements. Fellows will be expected to develop proficiency in
basic skills and procedures.
Statistics for Interviewed Positions
Ravi Kallur from the GME Office is requesting that all Program Directors send him the number
of applicants interviewed, with number of them being male/female and ethnicity.
Disaster Plan
The ACGME requires that all teaching hospitals and programs have a disaster plan in place.
This plan was approved by the CMH GMEC on March 26, 2008, and has been included in the
packets for this meeting.
Re-Organizing of Coordinators
The GME Office is in the process of adding additional coordinators to coordinate and help with
fellowship related items. This would take the burden off of the current administrative assistants
in each section and centralize the education piece for the ACGME and other reporting bodies.
The proposed responsibilities and job description was handed out to the group.
