And yet, a problem is indeed a handicap – but a handicap that could, under certain circumstances, be avoided or solved. In order for a problem to be funny, we must see that the person who is having the problem is perfectly fit and capable of solving it, except he or she doesn’t… This is where our journey into the anatomy of problems begins – and our problems will be very real indeed. The Anatomy of the Bearer of a Problem After we study some of the nature and logic of problems, we move on to the person (or character) having the problem. Oftentimes (actually most of the time), it is not the problem itself that is funny, but the person having it – this relates to both our physical and mental characteristics, as well as to the cultural and social environment we inhabit. This means the best problems are tailormade and there are bound to be problems out there that are just perfect for us… LUKÁŠ HOUDEK Clown, Pedagogue, Graduate of the Prague Performing Arts Academy (FAMU) - subject: Documentary film.
