Board of Education of the City of St. Louis CAREER OPPORTUNITY Position Title: Payroll/Personnel Type: Reports to: Autism Coordinator 12 Month(Exempt) City Wide Support Manager Position Summary: This person will coordinate all aspects of the autism program in St. Louis Public Schools and oversee the effective delivery of these services. Essential Functions: To coordinate the delivery of services to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder; To coordinate, with the behavior specialists and IEP team, the type of services required by each child; To develop a continuous training module for both classroom teachers and paraprofessionals in the use of effective practices for children on the autism spectrum; To develop a training module for general education teachers who might have students with autism spectrum disorder in their classrooms; To coordinate with various agencies and service providers, including but not limited to First Steps providers, in order to insure continuity of services; To identify needs, including personnel, for the program. To insure the delivery of appropriate services for children with autism; To insure that individual programs are updated regularly and that implementers of Discrete Trial Training are properly supervised; To insure that the Instructional Care Assistants that are assigned to classrooms have the appropriate training to carry out their assignments, including but not exclusive to training in autism, ABA methodology and Discrete Trial. To support cross-categorical classroom and general education teachers in their understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders. To develop transition processes for autism students who are moving from one program or level To monitor and review all IEPs for students in the Autism Program and students transferring into the district into the Autism Program Perform other duties as assigned Experience: Required: Five years of teaching experience, including at least three years of experience teaching children with autism spectrum disorder. Preferred: Early Childhood Special Education and/or Speech/Language Therapy experience Applied Behavior Analysis Training. A Master’s Degree in related field is preferred. Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis techniques. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have a solid knowledge base in all areas of programming for students with Autistic Spectrum Disorder; Must have the ability to train staff in current effective practices; Must be familiar with the Reauthorization of IDEA and how it relates to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder; Must be able to evaluate best practices in the field and oversee their provision in the district; Ability to talk knowledgably with parents about their child’s disability; Ability to write compliant IEP goals and objectives addressing individual strengths and weaknesses; Familiarity with Applied Behavioral Analysis techniques Knowledge of “Best Practices” in the area of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
