Parent Teacher Association Executive Board Meeting
June 10, 2015
The meeting was called to order at 6:45pm



















PTA President Marquis Benton began the meeting with an Ice Breaker activity.
Each Board member used the year on a penny to share a significant fact from that
year of their life.
Each Board member stated their role and responsibilities
Principal Newman stated an idea for recruitment: to host a faith-based night. She
would like to meet with Alisha to discuss recruitment ideas.
Principal Newman discussed the Tile fundraiser and how it will work. Ideas were
discussed among attendees regarding the amount for each Sponsorship Level.
Discussed ideas about Diamond Level at $1,000; having a Preferred Status; and
where to put the business name of Diamond Sponsors. Also discussed using the
back of the Agendas for Sponsor info.
Principal Newman will send the list of potential Sponsors to all Board members
via Google Docs. She will also re-send the Sponsorship package.
Board discussed use of PayPal for Tile payments over the summer.
PTA President Benton discussed promoting school Health & Wellness. Zumba
was mentioned.
Principal Newman asked Board for ideas on getting letters out
Discussion was held about ideas to celebrate teachers during their first week of
the new school year. Possible ChickFilA breakfast on the 18th of August.
Discussed use of parent volunteers to put up bulletin board paper. Idea: stock the
fridge with soda & water on 8/21.
Idea posed about using Sign Up Genius for Volunteer needs
Starting a Dad’s/Men’s group was discussed and the need for a name by the 20th.
Stacey will take the names of families in need of meals at Thanksgiving.
Idea for teacher appreciation: fruit platter & wings. Someone will need to
purchase a Keurig.
Potential food sponsors for teacher appreciation: Tijuana Flats, Jason’s Deli,
ChickFilA, Panera. Stacey will contact Panera. Marquis will talk to Bojangles.
Open House discussion began.
Each student’s assigned teacher will be posted on the door of the school on 8/13.
Pres. Benton discussed whether to use one big grill or multiple small ones.
Ideas on food: hamburgers and hot dogs, veggies, veggie/fruit trays
Activity ideas: bounce houses

Question posed: do we want to go all out for Fall Festival at the end of October:
carnival booths, bales of hay, bands from churches. Vendors- charge per table.
Use food trucks. Principal Newman will contact the Coke truck reps.
Open House will be more of a family picnic/tailgate event.
Cake & balloons- use Alisha Johnson’s school birthday idea
Pres. Benton will go to Sam’s and Walmart for donations
Ernest Hoag will go to Restaurant Depot
Stacey has a friend at Frito Lay
The next meeting will be July 22nd @ 6:30pm. Everything should be planned out by then.








Book delivery is expected 6/29 and 6/30. Books will be set up in Media Center by
CMS facility services.
Principal Newman will send an email the week of school opening.
How many volunteers are needed at Open House. Membership table. Spirit wear
(car decals, magnets, shirts, bags).
Ernest Hoag has a friend who can do grade level t-shirts for $5.90
Next discussion began about how much we want to raise overall? Board agreed
on $45,000. Idea: use PayPal to spread payments over 10 months. Ernest asked
about a flat rate. Bryan Angry will help create an ideal budget at the next meeting.
Mindset of PTA was discussed. How can we get the pulse of the community?
Funding doesn’t have to come from parents only, sponsors are needed.
Principal Newman will send the survey out and the feedback will be used at the
next meeting. She will also bring a calendar to map out events at the next mtg.
Pres. Benton will talk to his Zumba friend.
