Dear Friend,
Thank you for accepting this schedule of
our parish celebration of Holy Week. We
encourage you to use it as a reminder of all the
elements of prayer and worship that go into this
central week in our church calendar.
On Palm Sunday, we remember the
triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. We
accept palm branches and we listen to the story
of Jesus’ Passion and Death. We gather on
Monday as a Diocesan Church for the Chrism
Mass. During this Mass, celebrated in St. Mary
Cathedral, the priests of the Diocese renew their
promises of ordination and Bishop O’Connell
blesses the Oil of the Sick and the Oil of
Catechumens and then consecrates the Oil of
Chrism.
This celebration of three days is at the
heart of our faith. Because much of it happens
during the week, you may find it hard to
schedule your participation. I
encourage a
little extra planning and - perhaps some of the
time will open up for you and so you can join
with the rest of the parish in praying together
during Holy Week.
On Good Friday we focus on
Passion and Death of Jesus. We gather for
Commemoration Service at 3:00 p.m. and
have two options for praying the Stations of
Cross.
