Reporting to Modality Manager in area of placement Responsible for: Not applicable Role summary As a trainee the post holder will be continually supervised throughout their training but will work to the same job description as a qualified assistant practitioner. The post holder will be enrolled on an established course and successfully undertaking training to Foundation Degree Level in Diagnostic Radiography. The post holder will be expected to undertake training and work towards providing high standards of radiography in plain film imaging for ambulant clients using standard radiographic technique under the supervision of a fully qualified radiographer. The post holder will be expected to undertake training in radiography to assist a radiologist or other clinician for agreed fluoroscopy procedures under the supervision of a fully qualified radiographer. The post holder will assist radiographers, nursing and clinical staff by preparing rooms, equipment and patients prior to imaging examinations where necessary. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Undertake training to become competent in a limited area of radiography under the direction and supervision of a qualified radiographer. To be able to carry out limited radiographic examinations within the scope of practice agreed by the department under the supervision of a qualified radiographer. 2. To ensure that the Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999, IRMER 2000 and associated codes of practice and guidance notes, and Health and Safety at Work Act are understood and adhered to in respect of staff, patients and members of the public. 3. To liaise with and discuss requests with the supervising radiographer to ensure appropriate clinical examinations are performed within departmental protocols and national guidelines. 4. To ensure that the department’s identification policy is adhered to and that all patients are correctly identified prior to undergoing irradiation. 5. To assist radiographers, nursing and clinical staff by preparing equipment and patients for Imaging examinations and in the care of patients during and after examinations.
