Homework Policy: DeVita Readings* Each week, you will be assigned 3 readings from DeVita’s Stumbling Toward Truth. Think: How do these stories reflect the ideas and concepts we are learning that week? Also, how do these stories, and the peoples, cultures, ideas and situations we study relate to your own life, or to the lives of those you know? Write: At least one good paragraph response minimum per story. Your writings should encompass terms and ideas found in the week’s chapter of Cultural Anthropology. Please apply these terms to the situations and people of the DeVita stories. Each story’s response must incorporate at least 2 terms from Cultural Anthropology. These readings are a good 130 points of your overall grade, so please take care to write thoughtful responses. DeVita readings are typically due on Mondays and Wednesdays (see schedule on back page). DeVita responses are due on the due date in class. Late responses will be docked points. Participation/Attendance Policy: Roll will be called at the beginning of class. If you plan to miss a class, please make arrangements with fellow students to obtain lecture notes/assignments. This class works because of your active participation. Students are expected to arrive on time and be prepared to discuss the assigned readings. Repeated lateness will result in grade reductions. Please turn off your cell phones during class, do not work on other assignments, and keep conversations relevant to class discussions. College policy on cheating and plagiarism will be enforced. In-Class Participation Typically on Mondays and Wednesdays, we will discuss previously assigned selections from DeVita’s book (see schedule on back page).
