Concluding Statement.
Lawrence’s message about the destructive power of greed is relevant today because of our
economy. Today in our economy people today are doing anything to keep up with their lifestyle. For
example middle class citizens have started stealing from corporate companies. They feel they need
to maintain a quality life style that they can no longer afford. It goes for the story “The Rocking
Horse Winner” also.
In the story “The Rocking Horse Winner” the family was born rich but they were not rich
themselves. The mother and father were making low income and the children started hearing voices
in the house stating that it needs money. So the son Paul begins to gamble by betting on horse
races. Soon Paul begins to win a little bit of money and he sends his mother a postcard stating that
she will get thousand pounds on her birthday for five years. As soon as she gets it she wants the five
thousand pounds paid in full in which she spends to buy things for the house making the voices
more chaotic.
