“SRL in Practice” Assignment CSCI 4460, Spring 2014 Due: April 1, 2014 electronically via email to ylierler@unomaha.edu Assignment Overview Each student in class is assigned 20 sentences (see later in the file the list of sentences assigned to you). You are asked to run Semantic Role Labeler LTH (http://nlp.cs.lth.se/) and Illinois Semantic Role Labeler ISRL (http://cogcomp.cs.illinois.edu/page/software_view/SRL) on each one of these sentences. In 2008 CoNLL shared task, LTH obtained the best results. ISRL was among best performers at CoNLL-2005. To run LTH use online demo posted at http://barbar.cs.lth.se:8081/ . To run ISRL use online demo posted at http://cogcomp.cs.illinois.edu/demo/srl/ . For each sentence 1. obtain the output of LTH as well as ISRL 2. briefly describe how (I) LTH interpreted the sentence and (II) ISRL interpreted the sentence, in case when the interpretation of ISRL differ, and (III) how would you annotate the sentence 3. mark LTH as well as ISRL annotations as right or wrong for the sentence 4. describe what is “wrong” Once you analyze all the sentences, compute precision, recall, and F1 score of LTH and ISRL Find the definitions of precision/recall/F1 here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F1_score Elaborate on the following questions: Q1. How does your number for LTH compare with the number reported at CoNLL-2008 for this system? Q2. How do LTH and ISRL compare and differ in their assignments? Q3. Can one account on these similarities differences based on the technological ideas implemented in the systems? Note especially interesting sentences and corresponding analysis that you observed.
