Background information:
1. Analysis of the teaching material:
This teaching material is the language part of unit 2 Oxford edition 8A. It contains two
grammars: infinitives and gerunds. There are related exercises with each point. Since time is
limited, there is not enough time to present and practice both two grammars. Therefore, I choose
gerunds as my teaching focus.
2. Students: junior high school students, Grade 2
3. Lesson duration: 10 mins
Teaching objectives:

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

(2).Describe people’s action with gerunds

Teaching aids: blackboard, chalk, PPT, pictures
Teaching procedures:
Step1. Lead in (2 mins)
Look and Say
(1). T Shows some pictures and asks questions.
(2). Ss answer
(3). T uses one sentence to describe the pictures and write on the blackboard.
Step2. Present (2 mins)
(1). Guide Ss to discover that the sentences on the blackboard share something in common
(2). T highlights the structure with color chalks
(3). T explains the rule in detail
Step3. Practice (5 mins)
(1). Mechanical practice:
Make sentences within two verbs and pay attention to the proper form.
e.g. Li Ming ________________ (finish do) his homework at 9 p.m.
He _______________ (suggest go) to the cinema.
After the first practice, T summarize that after some verbs, we should use gerunds. Then,
write those verbs on the blackboard.
(2). More practice (Exercise on P24)
According to the pictures, fill in the blanks with the words provided in proper form

(1) Sum up the structure and verbs of gerunds
(2) Assignments
Reserved activities:
Work in pairs. Ask students to find out his/her partner two things that he/she enjoyed doing
when he/she was younger but does not enjoy doing now. They may use sentence like this:

Assignments:
Make five sentences with gerunds to describe yourself.
