Art Class Payments, Policies and Information
Structure
Fine art lessons focus on the needs of each individual student as well as
involving them in group activities such as: painting demonstrations, projects,
critique sessions and exhibits. Students work mostly from references of their
choosing in the media of acrylic, watercolor, ink, pencil or charcoal. Focus is on
technique while allowing for self - expression, imagination and experimentation.
Participation in critique sessions is encouraged but not required. These are
infrequent sessions held at the end of class where students are asked to offer one
positive comment about another students work and one constructive comment.
Class size is limited to 8.
Supplies
A large part of class is focused on care of materials, which includes keeping
track of supplies. Extra paint and brushes are provided, so parents should only have
to restock a few items every couple of months. Craft Mania in Auburn will give a
10% discount for student supplies from the materials list.
Exhibits
Students have the option to display their art on the Student Art Walls as well
as participate in exhibits throughout the year focused on student work. There is an
Annual Student Show every April or May in conjunction with Lewiston Schools
hosted by the studio. At this show awards are given by age group and every student
will receive a certificate of participation. There is also a Student Gallery on the
Wicked Illustrations web site and Facebook page where only the student’s first
name and age are displayed. However, displaying work or participating in these
events is by no means a requirement.
Presentation
Another critical artistic skill is professionally presenting your work
should you decide to share it with others. Because of this, classes also include
instruction on wiring, framing, biographies, Artists Statements, pricing and
choosing titles. The only item parents need to acquire for exhibits is a frame for
work that is not done on studio edge canvas; all other materials are provided in
class.
Framing
Only work done on paper, canvas pad or canvas panel should be framed if
the student wants to display it. Works done on studio edge canvas will have
finished sides and do not require framing. Professional framing is not needed. A
frame the size of the art work is all that is needed. Canvas pad and panel can be
framed without the glass however work done on paper will need the glass. You
may also consider matting artwork created on paper. Bring the art work with you to
best match up the color of the matting and make sure you are purchasing the
correct sizes. The employees at Craft Mania will be happy to help you with this.
Please feel free to ask me for advice and/or assistance as well.
Payment Policies and Fees
Classes are ongoing throughout the year and paid in six week increments for
as long as the student wishes to attend. The fee is 110.00 every six weeks
regardless of attendance, snow days and holidays. For two siblings it is 100.00.
Missed sessions can be made up with advanced notice during another class;
payments are not pushed ahead. Sessions are two hours. Payment can be made by
cash, check or credit card. Automatic payments are available. There is a $25.00
returned check fee.
Make-Up Lessons and Extra Lessons
Sometimes students are working on a project that they would like to
have done as a gift or for an exhibit and they need to come to an extra class to
complete it on time. In these cases students are more than welcome to stay longer
or come to an extra class in the week at no charge. For an extra lesson or to make
up a missed lesson advanced notice is needed so that the class is not over full.
Parking and Picking up Your Child
You are more than welcome to park at the front door when dropping off
your child. If you plan to send someone else to pick up your child that I have not
met please give me notice. Whoever is picking up the student should come inside
the studio or park in front of the door so I know who they are going with.
Students and parents are encouraged to contact me at any time if they have
questions, concerns, suggestions etc. My goal is to make art class a fun, relaxing
and educational experience that will prepare them to maneuver through the art
world or simply create for themselves.
*A note on special needs: Please communicate with me if your child has any
special needs, allergies or is taking any medication. I cannot help if I don’t know.
Art can be a very therapeutic tool your child can use to express themselves that can
be geared toward their special needs.
