Chemicals are stored in:
Appropriately labeled containers stored in appropriately labeled cabinets in
laboratory
Chemicals are safely transported by the following means:
Chemicals in form of powders would be placed in crucible or an appropriate
container and then transported to the oven. Liquid chemical containing materials would
be placed in appropriate containers and transported to the oven. All chemicals would
be handled while wearing gloves. While taking out crucibles and containers make sure
the inside temperature is below 100°C and use thermally insulating gloves.
In the event of an accident or other emergency, the following shall be done:
Eyes: Flush with water in eyewash station for 15 minutes
Skin: Wash with soap and water, remove contaminated clothing
Ingestion: Obtain immediate medical attention
Obtain medical attention as necessary
This is a list of our emergency equipment:
First aid kit is beside the fume hood.
Fire extinguisher is situated near the door and in the corridor.
Eye wash station and emergency shower is present in hallway to the left of the door of
the lab.
In case of fire hazards, use the fire extinguisher in the lab and inform appropriate
personnel.
In case of electrical emergencies, immediately shut off the oen.
The following are the spill control and decontamination procedures:
Mix with an appropriate absorbent material, place in an appropriate container
and dispose through EH&S.
For large spills, contact EH&S hazardous materials management at 392-8400
The following are the waste disposal procedures:
Hazardous wastes are stored in appropriately labeled containers. EH&S Hazards
Materials Management will pick up all waste from this laboratory.
