Got the winter blues? Suffering from cabin fever? Here is a way to beat the doldrums of a dreary winter in a congenial atmosphere exploring new and old interests! We are excited to offer these classes on a wide variety of fascinating topics to our community.
Based upon a very successful scholarship fund raising program at Saint Patrick’s School in Norfolk, we invited members, friends and neighbors to share their passions by offering courses and workshops to people of all ages.
Proceeds from these classes will be used by All Saints Church to give back to our community through our outreach programs. We support “Food For Thought”, “Interfaith Community Outreach”, ”Community Care Clinic of Dare”, and other worthy organizations here on the Outer Banks.

½ hour cooking class for beginner and intermediate level students will offer the basics of French Cooking, including the use and selection of ingredients, basic techniques, and improvising. For our instructor, JIM BICKFORD, nursery food was not on the menu at his home when he was growing up in Norfolk. He dined on dishes inspired by his mother’s travels in France. Students will also learn about uses for wax generated in the hives. Mah Jongg is said to have originated in the court of the King of Wu, during the time that Confucius existed, some five hundred years before the Christian era. Legend says the game was invented by a beauty in seclusion in the court of the King to keep her from utter boredom. The game first appeared in this country in 1920. Participants will be introduced to the basics of the game including identification of tiles, how to set up the game, and game rules.
Participants will also be guided in playing a game. Instructors are JEANNETTE ANDERSON and BARBARA TUCKER who have over six years experience playing and currently play weekly at DWCC. This course will be limited to four participants and will be offered from 3:00 to 5:00pm on Wednesday, Feb 10 th .

This may be the first time a course in Chinese cooking has been taught on the Outer Banks by a husband and wife team who have shared well over thirty years experience exploring Chinese and Asian food styles together. And now here’s your opportunity to learn first-hand how to plan and cook a meal, plus you’ll get to eat it with chopsticks, too! Open to any skill level, but especially favored for beginners, you’ll experience learning to roll an egg roll as well as how to chop, slice and dice. Gary and Carol Kimmel began their love affair with Chinese cooking with lesson in the 1970’s. Since then, they have perfected their skills. Decorated Ukrainian (pysanky) Easter eggs are things of beauty and are rich in Russian history. The art of the decorated egg in Ukraine probably dates back to ancient times. In modern times, the art of the pysanka was carried abroad by Ukrainian emigrants to North and South America. Since Ukrainian Independence in 1991, there has been a rebirth of the art in its homeland. Now in a two-night session, taught by JANE HARVEY, you can learn the history of pysanky egg making, the techniques of making the eggs, and something of the symbols and meanings of the eggs.
