Speaker: Lucinda Bateman, MD PAID NONPROFIT ORG US POSTAGE SUN PRAIRIE, WI PERMIT NO 8 Dr. Bateman completed her medical training at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, returned to the University of Utah for an internal medicine residency, and became certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1991. She practiced general internal medicine until 2000. In 2000 Dr. Bateman changed her focus, opened a fatigue consultation clinic in Salt Lake City and has since evaluated more than 800 patients with unexplained chronic fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). Dr. Bateman believes chronic fatigue warrants a thorough and cross-disciplinary approach that is often difficult to do in today's primary care setting. Dr. Bateman 's goal in establishing her fatigue consultation clinic and the non-profit, OFFER (Organization for Fatigue and Fibromyalgia Education and Research), is to encourage a more thoughtful evaluation process, better sharing of information, and joint research efforts aimed at understanding the cause(s) of CFS and FM. She has given many lectures on issues relating to CFS and FM. In addition to serving on the Board of the International Association for Chronic Fatigue syndrome (IACFS), she is the co-founder, prior Executive Director, and present board member of the Utah-based nonprofit, OFFER, and the Chair of Easter Seals Utah. (2005) “This program is not yet approved for CME credit. Conference organizers plan to request 2 hours of AAPA Category I CME credit from the Physician Assistant Review Panel. Total number of approved credits yet to be determined.” Seminar objectives: 1) The participant will be able to complete a workup to screen for causes of chronic fatigue. 2) The participant will be able to apply the case definitions of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. 3) The participant will recognize syndrome subsets and be able to utilize them to form a management plan. The International Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (IACFS) is a non-profit organization of research scientists, physicians, other healthcare professionals, and interested individuals and institutions. Our mission is to promote, stimulate and coordinate the exchange of ideas related to CFS and fibromyalgia (FM) research, patient care, and treatment. Specifically, the IACFS conducts or participates in local, national and international conferences, both scientific and clinical, in order to encourage future research ventures and evaluate new CFS and FM research. In addition, we publish a quarterly newsletter and provide periodic reviews of current clinical, research and treatment ideas on CFS/FM for the benefit of CFS and FM patients and others. These diverse efforts are intended to advance the understanding of CFS and FM with respect to diagnosis, causation and treatment. The IACFS plays a critical role in bringing together researchers, clinicians, government officials and other organizations to focus international attention on CFS and its public health impact and to stimulate public and private research funding.
