$1500 Barbara Sanchez Scholarship Application
Thank you for your interest in the 2006 Barbara Sanchez Scholarship. You must be
working in the media field to be eligible for this award. Five $1500 scholarships will be
awarded annually, one in each SHRM domestic region. Please read this application
carefully and follow all instructions. Applications must be postmarked by July 15,
2006 to be considered.
Eligibility
To apply for this award, you must be:



A national SHRM member (professional, general or associate)
Working full-time in human resources in the media field (print, publishing, cable &
satellite, broadcasting, motion picture, internet or communications)
Pursuing a college degree in human resources or a related field through an
accredited institution of higher learning. Full-time, part-time, online and distance
learning programs are acceptable.
Scholarships are for college degree programs only, and may not be used to attend
professional development seminars or workshops. This scholarship is a one-time award.
Previous applicants and past scholarship recipients are eligible to re-apply. Note:
Student members and local-only members of chapters are not eligible for this program.
Award History: In 2000, a scholarship fund was created to honor the late Barbara
Sanchez, an HR director at Newsday and a dedicated member of the Media Human
Resources Association (MHRA) board of directors. MHRA was disbanded in 2003, and it
was agreed that the remaining scholarship funds would be awarded through the SHRM
Foundation. Funding is available for this scholarship program until 2009.
Selection: Scholarship recipients will be selected based primarily on merit. Applicants
will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

The recipient must be accepted and ready to begin his or her studies within six months
following notification of the award. Evidence of acceptance or enrollment in an HRrelated program of study is required for applicants who are new students. Applications
will not be returned and all decisions are final.
Timeline: Applications must have a postmark date no later than July 15. All applicants
will be notified of their standing by phone or in writing no later than August 25 and
scholarship checks will be received by September 15.
