NCSHRM Student Chapter Member Scholarship
PURPOSE: The North Carolina State Council acknowledges that the future of the Human Resource profession lies with
the students of today. This scholarship program provides recognition, support, and monetary assistance to students
focusing on Human Resources as a profession.
AWARD: Each year a scholarship will be awarded to 2 students, up to $500 each.
QUALIFICATIONS: The applicant must:
 Be a current SHRM student member in good standing*
 Be a current undergraduate member of an affiliated SHRM Student Chapter
 Be an active full-time student at the time of the award
APPLICATION PROCESS: Complete the attached nomination form and submit it and all required documentation
(listed below) to NCSHRMAwards2015@gmail.com no later than June 1, 2015. Please include ‘Student Chapter Member
Scholarship’ in the subject line.
 Required documentation:
o No more than a two page overview of your Human Resources interests, including, for example, HR
classes taken or scheduled to take, student chapter positions held, and completed or current internships.
You might also include information regarding your extra-curricular activities and community service.
o A copy of your current transcript confirming GPA
o Two written recommendations supporting your character and achievements as outlined in your two page
overview. One recommendation MUST be from your student chapter advisor or a Human Resources
professor within your school.
DECISION PROCESS: Criteria for awarding these scholarships are based equally on the following areas: academic
performance in Human Resources classes, as well as overall academic performance; participation in the Student Chapter,
including volunteer positions or activities; participation in community or University/College volunteer positions or
capacities; overall interest in the Human Resources profession as supported by part-time jobs, internships or other
methods. Decisions by Scholarship Judges are final and are not subject to review by applicants.
The scholarships will be formally awarded at the NCSHRM State Conference.

Please note: the North Carolina State Council will not underwrite student attendance expenses to the State Conference to
accept awards. In the bidding process for the conference, the State Council does require that the host chapter(s) offers
student members reduced conference rates.
* Scholarship winners who are not members of SHRM will receive a one year paid student membership in SHRM with
the remainder of the scholarship monies paid directly to them.
