PARKS COMMISSION
June 5th, 2013

PRESENT: Tom Battaglia, Roger Pacos, Dave Giambrone, Evie Sievert, Janel Subjack,
Terry DiMaggio, Janet Nalbone, Sandy Przybyla, Joe Cerrie, and Ryan Meredith
Meeting called to order by Janel Subjack at 7:00
A motion was made by Terry DiMaggio and seconded by Janet Nalbone to approve the
May, 2013 minutes. All in favor.
Correspondence:
 Fredonia Beaver Club
o Sent the final installment of their donation towards our movie screen and
projector. We received the requested amount of $5,000
Summer Program:







Hiring Process
o Interviews were held Thursday May 30th – Saturday June 1st.
o 52 total applications accepted
 20 returning staff
 14 new people hired
All instructional activities taught in summer 2012 will be offered again
o Swimming, Dance, Drama, Sewing, Basketball, Softball, Tennis, Arts/Crafts,
Karate, and Spanish
o Soccer instruction will be added at Gardner St.
Summer Staff orientation will be held on Wednesday June 19th at 4 PM
Registration
o Friday June 21st, 6-8 PM
o Saturday June 22nd, 9AM – Noon
Program Dates
o Begin on Monday June 24th
o End on Friday August 16th
Program Times
o Sandy has mentioned that there has been past issues with parents picking their
children up late from the playgrounds
o Joe Cerrie suggested that there be an emphasis to the hours of operation on the
registration forms
Russell Joy Park Baseball Field
o Infield repair is complete
o Grass is coming in nicely, although Glen Acres Nursery suggests we stay off
the grass for at least two weeks (on or about June 14th) Note: The grass is
coming in nicely, but I’m going to keep the infield roped off until the start of
the program on June 24th
For the Good of the Order:


Joe Cerrie is trying to get approval for a part-time maintenance person to work on just
the playgrounds. Summer is very busy for the street department and many times they
are unavailable when needed to their required duties.
Next meeting will be Wednesday, July 10th at 6:00 PM at the Hamlet St. Pavilion for
our annual picnic. Please bring a dish to pass, because Tom is grilling and he will
probably burn everything.
