People credited with this unit standard are able to amend putrescible wastes for treatment and use in composting, and prepare putrescible wastes for treatment and use in composting. PPE includes but is not limited to – gloves, eye protection, footwear, overalls, hearing protection, respirator or facemask, highvisibility clothing, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, eye wash kit, face shield/mask; hard hat. 3 Definition Company procedures mean the documented methods for performing work activities and include health and safety, environmental, and quality management requirements. Range measured, sprayed with deodoriser, transportable. 1.2 Putrescible wastes are pressed to remove liquid and to achieve specified particle size and density in accordance with company procedures. 1.3 Putrescible wastes are checked for wet to dry balance and carbon to nitrogen ratio in accordance with company procedures. 1.4 Hazards are identified, reported, and managed in accordance with company procedures. hazards include but are not limited to – pathogens. Range Outcome 2 Prepare putrescible wastes for treatment and use in composting. Evidence requirements 2.1 Putrescible wastes are blended with bulking agents to ensure optimum balance for compost production in accordance with company procedures. Range 2.2 absence of odour; optimum balance of – moisture, carbon to nitrogen ratio, temperature. The resulting blends are monitored in accordance with company procedures. Range 2.3 absence of odour, moisture, carbon to nitrogen, temperature, pathogens. Putrescible wastes are processed through to maturation in accordance with company procedures.
