MAIN OPTIONS FOR THE FINAL PROJECT (3-5 pages typed) #1: RETELLING THE KINGDOM STORY EMPHASIS -3 possibilities here A. Summarize in a sentence what happened in each of the 29 lessons and then one of its main contribution to the kingdom Story. (e.g. Lesson #1: Genesis 1-2 tell us how God created the world and everything in it. Gen. 1-2 are revealed God’s plan of how man and woman, the world and God were ideally to relate to each other.) Then tie these individual summaries together to tell the whole Kingdom/Bible story. B. Pick a theme that is relevant to your ministry life or ministry. (e.g., faith, justice, the city, 1 on 1 relationships, obedience) and then identify that theme in as many of the 29 Kingdom story lessons as you can-in at least 5-7. Not every lesson will be useful of course. You are welcome to find your theme outside of the passages we studied. Summarize the lessons on this theme from each “chapter” (e.g., Faith in Abraham’s life is …..). Then tie these lessons together to tell the whole Kingdom/Bible story. C. Tell the Kingdom story 1) using a symbol or a metaphor and 2) the 29 lessons as an initial outline- but you can include more. Note: all year we did this using the Kingdom metaphor. We also used the Divine Romance theme. #2: EMPHASIS ON BOTH YOUR & THE KINGDOM STORY: EXAMINING AN ISSUE NARRATIVELY A. Pick a theological or ethical issue that is relevant to your life and ministry but is not an easy one to follow throughout the whole biblical story. E.g. environmentalism, homosexuality, justice, work B. Use the overview presented in the last class as an outline for your “theology” of this issue- the 4 chapter kingdom story: Creation (Gen. 1-2/How things should be and God’s intent), the Fall (Gen. 3-11/How things are and what went wrong), Redemption (Gen. 12-Jude/How things can change) and Consummation (what happens at the end) as a way to think through your issue. Insert as many of our 29 lessons under these headings as you can and other texts as well, that directly and indirectly help you think about this subject. Be sure to summarize what you learned at the end into some overall themes. #3: MINISTRY STORY EMPHASIS: A REAL CASE STUDY FOR YOUR SITUATION A) First of all identify a real or a imagined future scenario from the ministry you are currently involved in. Write it down in a brief sentence of introduction. It’s best if the scenario is: something relevant to the whole ministry team (e.g. the small group ministry, worship ministry), a situation needing some revision or attention (not something going well). B) Do a detailed Diagnosis: Part one is to identify and describe in detail all the relevant people, history, patterns of behavior, cultural norms, relational issues. You want to make it clear what you think the problem is, both symptoms and root causes. This should be about a page long. (e.g. not enough small group leaders, leaders are too busy, etc.) C) Develop your biblical Truth from the Kingdom story: Go through the Kingdom Story lessons and find at least 5 examples that speak to your ministry scenario. (e.g. Moses and Joshua, Nehemiah, Jesus and the 12) Describe the biblical example in some detail and make it clear how this story will relate to your scenario. D) Make the Strategy: Lay out in part two a plan for innovation in ministry (make some suggestions for something new!!) that you would recommend for this situation. These recommendations should clearly be related to the biblical truth (section C above). 1-2 pages here. E) Anticipate the Outcome: write out what you anticipate happening as a result for those who participate in the ministry. About a half page here. #4 PREPARING TO TEACH THIS CURRICULUM TO A NEW AUDIENCE NEXT YEAR C. D. E. F. Identify a real audience. What lessons and themes would you use? What changes would you make to what we did this year? What format would you use to teach it? When? How long? Create both a teaching plan and a curriculum outline. Opening comments: Hi friends, Here is a list of ideas for your final project for the Kingdom Story. The final project is a key part of this program to pull it all together at the end. My goal is for you to pick one and share it with me before you set off to work on your project. You can do the project by yourself or with your partner. I prefer however you do it alone. Each project should be 3-5 pages typed on the computer. Here are my best ideas for options, but if you have others, please let me know. Give them examples, past projects. G. Eg. was used as well. Book the Giving Tree is an example. USA Only: #4 Other examples of final projects 1) Movie clips or secular /Worship music songs for each theme or many of them. 2) Church history examples that compare to each theme/chapter 3) Find one movie that has multiple KS themes and see how many you can find (Lord of the Rings, Shawshenk Redemption, Chariots of Fire, The Mission, Dead Poet Society, Facing the Giants, etc. 4) If I do the 12 genesis overview…. 5) Exegete your city using 12 Genesis and / multiple theme of the story.
