Fawzia Hossain, Associate ProFessor, Dep CAREER INTENTIONS: At the commencement of my professional life, when I joined the government service, I started my family. I supported my husband to become an orthopaedic surgeon and I raised up three lovely daughters. I am committed to pursue my career in obstetrics and gynaecology. I have undergone supervised training as a specialist registrar in UK since I have gained some experience in my own country earlier. I was trained in UK from the period between August 2002 till August 2005 under the fellowship scheme of Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists, UK. I have tried to develop effective communications skills, good inter-personal, organisational and listening skills. I am aware of my own limitations. I know when to ask for help and consult senior colleagues appropriately. I appreciate the importance of clinical governance and always bear in mind the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection. I wish to work in my career pathway efficiently and I think, I would be able to cater to the needs of my institute with dedication and proficiency. Having worked in Bangladesh, a country with limited resources, I am well acquainted to time management, prioritizing my work and making a plan for the day. I try to do most of what I can in the least possible time. I wish to work in the international arena and gain more experience. Subsequently, I want to develop liaison with developed and neighbouring countries for bilateral research and training for our doctors and students. I wish to work in this field for its diversity, multicultural exposure and excellence in the health service. All through my career I was involved in research work and wish to pursue in the field of research. Due to the medical and scientific background of my academic and specialized clinical training, my research and teaching interests are broad in scope and encompass the field of obstetrics and gynaecology . I have been actively involved in mentoring and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students both in UK and Bangladesh. I returned back to my motherland to serve my people despite lucrative job offers from foreign countries. I wish to serve my nation as a physician, social activist and human rights worker through my petty knowledge, skills and experience. I have extreme passion for teaching and I am in the midst of writing books on obstetrics and gynaecology. I have started the MRCOG Part I and Part II written centre in Dhaka Bangladesh. I am a global trainer of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and North Carolina University. Fawzia Hossain My aspiration at the moment is to make my University, that is Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University as one of the best centres of excellence in the South East Asian region through my work and dedication.
