Cysgliad
Welsh Spelling and Grammar Checker, Dictionary and Thesaurus
Cysgliad is available for use on all student PCs on the network (including the computers in
the library) and on all other PCs configured by Information Services and Systems.
INSTALLING CYSGLIAD
If Cysgliad is already installed on the PC you should see the Cysgeir and Gwirio Dogfen
icons when you click on the Add-Ins tab in Word. If it is not already installed do the
following:
 Close all Microsoft Office Applications, including Word.
 Open the folder “Novell Delivered Applications”.
 Click on “Microsoft Office 2007 Suite”.
 Click on the Cysgliad icon.
 Click on “Yes” if you are asked if you wish to install Cysgliad
 When you next open Word the Cysgliad icons should be on the toolbar when
you click on the Add-Ins tab.
Welsh dictionary (CYSGEIR)
Click on the Cysgeir icon if you wish to use the Welsh dictionary (either Welsh to English
or English to Welsh).
To change from Welsh – English to English – Welsh click on
Welsh – English.
Checking and correcting grammar and spelling
To correct the spelling and/or grammar of the whole text in your Word document place the
cursor at the beginning of the text and click on the Gwirio Dogfen (Check Document) icon.
The program will then check the document from where the cursor is placed to the end of
the document. Any spelling or grammar which the program queries will appear in red.
Alternative words or spellings are usually given.
If you wish to accept one of the alternatives offered highlight it and click on the Gywiro
(Correct) button or the Cywirio Pob (Correct Each) button. Clicking on Cywirio Pob is
useful if the same mistake needs to be corrected elsewhere in the text. If there is a
grammatical error (e.g. in the use of truncation) the program gives an explanation for the
change it suggests.
If you don’t wish to accept any of the alternative suggestions click on the Anwybyddu
(Ignore) button. In some cases (e.g. often when your text contains a name) a word is
correct even when Cysgliad queries it and suggests an alternative.
To correct the spelling and/or grammar of selected text highlight the part you want to
check within the document and click on the Gwirio Dogfen icon.
To correct the spelling of one word place the cursor on the word or highlight any part of it
and then click on the Gwirio Gair (Check Word) icon .
Thesaurus
Click on the Thesaurus icon
to open the Thesaurus. If you place the cursor on a word
in your document and then click on the Thesaurus icon you may be offered words with
similar meanings. To close the Thesaurus window click on Cau.
