This took the form of a simple device fitted at home, improving the product’s security when being used as a COT. If moved or lifted for any reason, we found it possible to create a gap between the lower and upper cot bed leg sections, with the possibility of injury to parent or child. It was also found possible that, in some cases, partial disassembly of the drop side mechanism could occur, rendering the cot unsafe. If you already have the device supplied and fitted no further action is required. If not and you still own a Cosatto Stratford Cot bed, in either white or nut finish, please check the Product Description Label as shown in the picture. Then check the Date Code Label to see if your cot bed is affected. You will find these labels on the mattress base slats. The only versions affected have Date Code Labels dated from 01/09/2005 to 18/03/2009 (inclusive) and were sold by high street retailers and outlets throughout the UK and Ireland. If you are using your cot bed as a COT, stop using it immediately and make alternative safe sleeping arrangements for your baby and contact us with your details to receive the safety enhancement device. If you have converted your cot bed into a JUNIOR BED, it is safe to continue using it, but you still need to request the safety enhancement device for future use as a COT. Once you have carried out the above checks and you think you may have a Stratford Cot bed that is affected, please contact Cosatto immediately, via 0871 977 3888, or via email at stratford@cosatto.com or simply write to the address printed below, marking your envelope "Stratford Cot bed". We will send out, by return post and without charge, a component, an Allen key and fitting instructions to enable you to easily complete the safety enhancement. We have taken this action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our customers and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Cosatto Ltd, Bentinck Street, Farnworth. Bolton, Lancashire BL4 7EP Bracelets made from deadly seeds recalled A recall is underway of thousands of beaded bracelets sold in tourist attractions after it emerged they are made from a highly toxic seed. The bracelet, made from the highly toxic Jequirity b The Eden Project in Cornwall is one of 36 retailers urging customers to return the red and black bracelets made from the Jequirity bean, the deadly seed of the plant abrus precatorious. It contains the toxin abrin, a controlled substance under the Terrorism Act that if swallowed can kill in doses of just 3 micrograms. It is related to ricin, the chemical warfare agent. People who have bought the bracelets are being urged to bag them and then wash their hands and avoid touching their eyes. They are being offered refunds by the stores. The Eden Project sold 2,800 bracelets over a year after being supplied the jewellery, originating from Peru, from wholesaler Rainstick Trading. "We've identified some of the seeds as potentially dangerous so we have withdrawn the bracelets from sale immediately,” said a spokesman said. "We have been advised in an extreme case, if these seeds are chewed or ingested it is very dangerous and potentially lethal." Rainstick Trading did not return calls last night. Kilmartin House Museum, Argyll, Scotland, said its gift shop had sold “fewer than a dozen” of the bracelets. The Jequirity bean is commonly used in jewellery in West Africa and is thought in the Obeah religion to ward off witchcraft. Its toxin, abrin, is chemically similar to ricin, the poison used by the Bulgarian secret police to assassinate dissident Georgi Markov with a pellet-tipped umbrella. However it is far more toxic, and can kill in doses 75 times smaller. The symptoms of poisoning are acute gastroenteritis with vomiting, diarrhoea, shock and potentially fatal kidney failure. There are three recorded cases of Jequirity beans killing children who swallowed them in the US, and there are cases of death by finger-prick among jewellery makers who jab themselves while boring through the seeds with needles. There is no known antidote.
