Corporate Governance
Our Board of Directors
Hamblin Limited provides a complete range of employment services. Its Board of
Directors consists of two executive and three non executive directors. Formal
meetings are held once every calendar quarter with regular informal meetings during
the intervening months. There is regular dialogue between the non executive
directors and the executive directors.
The Board has ultimate responsibility for overall strategy, corporate governance and
reviews of financial performance. It is run effectively with an eye to the future.
Management Committee
Consisting of the two executive directors plus the office manager, this committee
meets formally once every two weeks but maintains daily contact with each other.
The committee deals primarily with the formulation of policy on all operational issues,
financial control, staffing management and business development.
Shareholders
Hamblin aims to achieve clear reporting of financial performance to its shareholders,
who meet at least annually at the Annual General Meeting.
Audit Committee
This committee is headed by the Finance Director who maintains regular contact
throughout the financial year with the company’s external auditors.
Employee Relations
Workplace
A flexible, professional and motivated workforce is essential to our business. We
endeavour to create a working environment that is harmonious, and encourage
everyone to stretch themselves and develop.
We aim for long term relationships with our staff, recognising the economic sense in
protecting our investment in our people.
Employee Development
Hamblin is committed to provide its people with the training, development and work
experience that they need to fulfil their potential within the business.
We provide comprehensive induction courses for all new starters, and all employees
enjoy further on-going internal training, on and off Island external training and other
courses for the development of occupational skills.
We encourage and financially support all of our staff in obtaining professional
qualifications relevant to our industry.
Employee Involvement
Regular company meetings are held which involve all of our staff. We create a forum
for discussion, debate and exchange of ideas.
Diversity
We believe in employing a diverse workforce. Both Hamblin and the individual
employee benefits from a workplace where there are diversities of background,
culture, outlook and life skills.
Equal Opportunities
Hamblin has adopted the Equal Opportunities Policy of the Recruitment and
Employment Confederation.
Not only does this promote within the business an environment free from
discrimination for our employees, but it also extends to all clients and candidates.
Business Standards
Professional Memberships
Hamblin as a company is a full corporate member of both the Recruitment and
Employment Confederation (REC) and The Employment Agents Movement (TEAM).
Both of these widely recognised bodies have stringent prescribed standards to which
Hamblin adheres.
Many of the individuals employed by Hamblin are academically and professionally
qualified, and all recruitment consultants are required to qualify for individual
membership of the REC.
Code of Practice
Hamblin has signed up to the Code of Good Recruitment Practice as issued by the
REC, the largest association of professional recruitment organisations in Great
Britain.
This Code ensures that all members of the REC conduct their business ethically and
to the highest standards and promotes best practices in all aspects of our business.
Code of Ethics
The REC issues a strict Code of Ethics to which Hamblin subscribes as a corporate
member and to which individual recruitment consultants commit personally.
This Code of Ethics establishes the highest ethical standards for professional conduct
in our business.
Complaints and Disciplinary Procedure
Any breaches of the Code of Ethics or any complaints not handled satisfactorily by
Hamblin itself may be referred to the REC under the REC’s Complaints and
Disciplinary Procedure with a possible referral to the Professional Standards
Committee.
Full details of this Procedure are found on the REC website www.rec.uk.com
Environmental Responsibility
The Hamblin Group is a provider of employment, HR and recruitment services. As
such our business has only a very limited direct effect on the environment through our
operational activities.
Nevertheless where relevant and where possible all aspects of the Group’s business
and related administrative activities will be conducted in such a way as to avoid
environmentally harmful activities or processes.
Compliance with applicable environmental legislation and regulatory requirements will
be the minimum performance requirement.
As a Group we also encourage our suppliers and clients to embrace the ethic of
reduced environmental impact. This may range from the simple use of recycled paper
and materials to the movement towards electronic paperless invoicing, Management
Information reporting and payment processing.
Community Investment
Playing Our Part
As ‘The People Company’ our business is very much focused on those people who
may be our clients, our candidates, our employees or our local partners. We believe
that this includes playing an active part in the life of our local community.
By behaving professionally and responsibly we hope to influence the people that we
touch, thereby creating an environment in which business can flourish.
Donation Programmes
Ever since its inception some 23 years ago, Hamblin has engaged upon an active
programme of helping both local and international deserving causes.
Individual employees within Hamblin are also encouraged and supported in
contributing hours of community service, beach cleans, sponsored walks and fund
raising for Rotary International and Round Table projects.
Government Relations
Hamblin is a Manx owned company, taxed in the Isle of Man and supporting Manx
resident employees. It thus makes a significant contribution to the Manx Economy
through direct and indirect taxation.
Hamblin’s involvement with the Isle of Man Government far exceeds its role as the
sole supplier of temporary staffing.
Working over the years in active partnership with many Government or quasi
Government bodies, Hamblin has always sought to be a part of the development and
shaping of the Island and its workforce.
Hamblin engages in support for educational programmes such as scholarship grants
for the International Business School, representation on the committee of the College
of Further Education, direct involvement with Government Information Technology
courses, career counselling for school leavers and the provision of training courses in
association with the Department for Economic Development.
