Scholarships Available For the Foundation Center’s Full-Day Training Seminars Partial scholarships are now available to enable eligible representatives of under-resourced nonprofits serving the Washington, DC metropolitan area to attend the Foundation Center's full-day training seminars. This initiative is intended to help small community-based organizations to build their capacity in preparation for seeking financial support for their work. Any organization meeting the criteria below is invited to apply. Decisions will be made by the Scholarship Committee of the Foundation Center–Washington, DC Advisory Board. The Scholarship Committee retains the right to determine the applicant’s need based solely on this application. Partial scholarships will be awarded as follows: Course fee: $125 (Foundation Fundraising: An Introductory Course): $100 scholarship (you pay $25) Course fee: $195 (majority): $150 scholarship (you pay $45) Course fee: $295 (Foundation Funding Research): $200 scholarship (you pay $95) Note: Scholarships are not available for the Grantseeker Training Institute. Eligibility: (Note: Individuals must be sponsored by a non-profit organization.) 1. Organizations must have 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. 2. The total organizational operating budget must be under $1,000,000. 3. Organizations must be located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and working to meet the needs of people in the local community. Applications from organizations that are not locally focused cannot be considered. In addition, reviewers will look for compelling, well thought out statements describing what professional growth you expect to achieve as a result of attending the seminar, and how the organization will benefit from your participation. Participants receive a one-week subscription to Foundation Directory Online Professional, a copy of Securing Your Organization’s Future, Revised Edition, and a workbook outlining all course topics. Proposal Budgeting Workshop ($195) This course will teach you to build a budget step-by-step to give funders a complete picture of your project’s financial needs. Using real-world case studies, you’ll learn to think more strategically about how to strengthen your budget presentation. Participants receive the course workbook and templates for budget worksheets. Outcome Thinking and Management: Shifting Focus from Activities to Results ($195) Nonprofits are frequently asked to prove their benefit to the communities they serve. This course, developed in partnership with the Center for Outcomes of The Rensselaerville Institute, teaches the merits of outcome-based planning and management. You’ll learn how to use outcomes thinking to produce better proposals, and to report on the impact of your program. Participants receive Outcome Frameworks: An Overview for Practitioners, and a workbook with templates for worksheets used in the course. Proposal Writing Seminar ($195) Our expert instructors will teach you to craft a comprehensive, compelling proposal package—step by step. You’ll hear what funders themselves have to say about proposals, and gain valuable insight into the review process. Participants receive The Foundation Center’s Guide to Proposal Writing and the course workbook. Earned Income: Assessing Your Nonprofit’s Revenue Options ($195) Whether your nonprofit is considering an alternative revenue stream or already pursuing one, this course helps you maximize the opportunities—and avoid the pitfalls—of earned income. Participants receive Effective Economic Decision-Making by Nonprofit Organizations, The Nonprofit Entrepreneur, and a course workbook. Securing Corporate Sponsorships ($195) Today, corporations take an increasingly active role in supporting nonprofit organizations. This course will help you understand the unique characteristics of corporate funders, how their giving differs from that of U.S. foundations, and where to make inroads to gain their support. Developing a Fundraising Plan ($195) Learn how to strengthen your nonprofit’s capacity to successfully raise funds and secure long-term financial stability. Through worksheets and exercises you will learn to effectively assess your situation and develop a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes a healthy mix of sources — from individuals to institutions. Participants receive Securing Your Organization’s Future, Revised Edition, and a course workbook. Foundation Funding Research: Strategies for Finding and Evaluating Prospects ($295) Using a strategic approach to funding research, you’ll find funders with a proven commitment to programs or projects like yours. This day-and-a-half course shows the many ways to find comprehensive, accurate information on prospective funders with the nation’s premier grantseeking tool, Foundation Directory Online Professional. Participants receive a one-month subscription to Foundation Directory Online Professional and a course workbook. Cultivating Grantmaker Relationships ($195) When the partnership between a nonprofit organization and its funders is strengthened, it's mutually beneficial. This course teaches you how to make the initial contact, help funders feel connected to your mission, cultivate grantmaker relationships throughout the grant process, and secure long-term stability for your projects.
