Descendants of Stephen Revels Generation No. 1 1. STEPHEN1 REVELS was born 1747, and died 1803 in Georgia Rockies. He married DELILA BULLARD 1778 in Cherokee Lands. Notes for STEPHEN REVELS: Stephen Revels was born in an area that was within the Creek Nation, west of Cherokee Lands in the 1700's. He spoke the Cherokee language and kept Cherokee customs until his death. Stephen's Indian name translates to the english language as "Long Time Hunter". He lived on lands that are today known as North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and Mississippi. He hunted and fished as a means of supporting his family. MYCAJAH2 REVELS (STEPHEN1) was born 1804 in Tallahatchie River Cherokee Reservation, and died April 12, 1888 in Forrest Township, Vernon County, Wisconsin. He married MORNING JACOBS November 22, 1825 in Lumberton, Robeson County, North Carolina. Notes for MYCAJAH REVELS: Mycajah and Morning left the reservation about 1820 and relocated to the area where Mycajah's brother's, Henry and William, lived. This is referred to in documentation as 40 miles NW of Macon, Georgia or upper Alabama. Present day, this would be Bibb County, which was established in 1823. The original settlement there being called Newtown, which developed around Ft. Hawkins in 1806. Prior to the fall of 1825, Mycajah and family left Georgia and went Robeson County, North Carolina. This is known because of North Carolina documentation showing Mycajah and Morning were married in Lumberton. Conflicting documentation (Morning's application for pension for son William's Civil War service, State of Wisconsin) has the date of December 20, 1826. In all likelihood, they were married by tribal custom, repeated their vows in Lumberton to satisfy "polite society". By 1830, the family had moved back to eastern Georgia. Specifically, Fayette County, south of what would become Terminus, now known as Atlanta. Sometime around 1833/34, Mycajah moved his family to the Evansville, Indiana area and on to Orange County, Indiana between the years of 1834/36. Converted to the Methodist church while residing in Orange County, Indiana. Preached in Hamilton and Orange Counties. After moving to Wisconsin, built a church in Revels Valley where he conducted services. The first service Mycajah held was in 1857. Every summer, Mycajah and Morning would host the Revels family picnic. All their neighbors were welcomed. They would eat, play games and one year they had a merrygo-round. Notes for ADA REVELS: From the Star Herald News ~ March 14, 1930 - Volume XXVII #24~ "ELLIOTT HELD ON MURDER COUNT" MACK WOMAN DIES FROM GUN SHOT WOUND INFLICTED BY CRAZED NEGRO "Viroqua, Wis.-- Within three hours after the death of Mrs. Ben Mack of Ontario, at the Hillsboro Hospital on Thursday morning. John Elliot, colored faced a charge of murder in county court here. Elliot pleaded not guilty, waived preliminary examination and was held to circuit court. Mrs. Mack died without regaining consciousness, from a bullet which pierced her head, following an altercation between Elliot and Mr. Mack at the latter's home Sunday evening. Elliot confessed to the shooting Wednesday afternoon after being detained by county authorities since Sunday. The argument that resulted in the ultimate death of Mrs. Mack started when Elliot, who was drinking with Mack, attempted to pour whiskey down a dog's throat, it now develops. Mack objected and the two struggled in combat for several minutes. According to the story told afterwards, and repeated by Wm. Goddman, who has been a plain clothes operator in Los Angeles the past four years and is now visiting at the home of his parents in Hillsboro, he was one of the first to get on the scene after the shooting. He accompanied deputy sheriff Emil Heisel of Hillsboro. Both Mack and Elliot tried to strangle each other, and finding himself unsuccessful at this, Elliot reached for his gun, a 22 automatic, and opend fire on Mack as the latter ran thru the doorway. His aim war poor, however, and his bullet caught Mrs. Mack in the back of the head. Workers at a sawmill near at hand rushed to the scene and on the pretext of having another drink, detained Elliot until the authorities arrived. After the shooting Elliot had threatened to shoot others if they stood in his way. Mrs. Mack, whose maiden name was Ada Revels, was a cousin of Elliots. Both Elliot and Mack were laborers in a sawmill near the Mack home on highway 33. Elliot is a son of a former LaFarge Barber. ~~~~~Note~~~~~ The story hadned down by word of mouth in the family differs with the article from the Star Herald News. According to the article, a fight insued over Elliot trying to pour whiskey down the Mack's dog's throat. But then, the family story is, that Ben Mack then took John Elliots gun away from him, handed it to Ada and told her to throw it in the creek. Instead, she gave the gun back to Elliot and when he fired at Ben, Ada was in the line of fire. More About ADA REVELS: Fact 1: raised by Elizabeth Revels Walden Cause of Death: gunshot vi. vii. viii.
