A further update on some exciting developments around the club.
New Coach
We are delighted to announce the appointment of John Playle of Hobart Tennis Academy as
the Club Coach for Lindisfarne Tennis Club, effective immediately.
John is a highly qualified coach and is one of only two Tennis Australia recognised High
Performance Coaches in Tasmania. He will be based exclusively at the club with his squads of
juniors and adults.
John’s brief resume…..
- 15 years coaching experience of all ages and abilities in the USA, United Kingdom
and Australia.
- Currently a certified Tennis Australia Club Professional. One of two coaches in
Tasmania who is a National Talent Development Coach. Currently on a junior focus
group board with Tennis Tasmania
- In the last few years have been a state squad coach, state talent camp coach, super
10s coach.
- Currently coach and owner of Hobart Tennis Academy. He coaches roughly 100
players a number of whom are Tasmanian State players. Goals over the next few
years are to expand coaching program's within the state, increase club
membership and growth and to increase the number of high performance juniors
both state and nationally.
- Hobart Tennis Academy has a strong relationship with Tennis Tasmania, Stringlab
and a number of businesses within the State.
In his squad are some highly ranked Australian and Tasmanian juniors.
All of John’s squad members and clients must become members of Lindisfarne Tennis Club
which will see approximately 80 new club members.

In negotiations with John, your committee has been careful to preserve the existing court
facilities for our current members, while providing access to the courts for John’s squads.
We would like to thank Grant Doonan and Marty Nusdorfer for their association with the
club over recent years. Their use of courts will cease mid December and in the meantime will
dovetail in with John.

Australian Seniors Championships
The Lindisfarne Tennis Club is fortunate to have been invited by Tennis Tasmania to co-host
the 2014 Australian Seniors Team Championships 13-18 January 2014 along with other
Hobart based clubs. It is expected that 500+ senior tennis players will descend on Hobart for
this event and the Individual Championships 19-24 January. Play will commence around
8.00am and conclude at 6.00pm, a pretty full day for the organising committee.
We are looking for volunteers to assist with the conduct of the play, food preparation,
canteen and kiosk duties. Enclosed with this newsletter is further information on the event
and volunteer duties and an expression of interest for volunteers. Your assistance will be
appreciated, as this is a perfect opportunity to raise some funds for the club.
Social Tennis
Thursday night sausage sizzle and social tennis will commence again on Thursday 17
October, all welcome and bring a friend. Hit off from 7.00pm…..
Outdoor tables
We are re-locating the outdoor table which was between the BBQ and the fence to make a
row of three along the grassed area behind court 3, with new seats and top. Thanks to Karl
Jacubec and Geoff Hill for their welding skills, and Gerald Jones and Tony Rodgers for their
staining skills, it should be in place in a couple of weeks.
Fed Cup
Tennis Tasmania has announced that Hobart will host the opening round of the women’s
Fed Cup, Australia v Russia 8-9 February at the Domain Tennis Centre. This will see some
exciting tennis, with eight Russian women in the top 30 in the world. Sam Stosur will
represent Australia along with Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua. Watch out for when
tickets go on sale. This event of course follows the Hobart International and the Australian
Seniors championships, so lots of good tennis to be seen and played in Hobart early in the
New Year.
Clubhouse
Gerald Jones and his band of hard working “volunteers” are still at it in the clubhouse. The
men’s change room and the kitchen are being plastered with new ceilings and lighting
installed. The ladies change room will be painted and again new lighting fitted.
A latch has been fitted to the clubhouse door so that it can now be pulled tight without the
need to lock it to keep it shut. Please remember to lock it when you are last to leave.
A new window which can be opened will be fitted over the sink to allow for ventilation in the
kitchen….. again, please ensure it is secured shut when you leave.
Return of Keys
If you have a key to the club facilities which you no longer need, or you know of past
members who have a key and who are no longer entitled to hold that key, would you please
return them and claim the deposit back. We are in desperate need of these keys for new
members.

Reciprocal agreement with Motor Yacht Club of Tasmania
The MYCT and LMTC have entered into a formal reciprocal rights agreement which we
believe will be of major benefit to both clubs. LMTC members will have access to all MYTC
facilities as if you were a Social member of that club. When using the facilities there, simply
identify yourself as LMTC member.
If you or your group is having a social get-together, wedding, wake or celebration, please
consider the MYTC as avenue who will provide a very competitive quote.
In return, MYTC members will have access to our facilities and courts on a casual court hire
basis.

Major Project
In our last communique, I outlined our proposal to Clarence City Council for support to resurface Courts 1, 2 and 3. Unfortunately we were too late to catch the budgeting cycle for
the 2013/14 council funding, but we are still pursuing this and other avenues to raise funds
to allow us to re-surface these courts. It may mean we are still 6 months or more away from
this project.
Sporting immortality
Congratulations to Tony Rodgers who has been selected to represent Australia in the 65+
World Hockey championships to be held in The Hague next year in May and June. We’re not
sure if Liz is going too, but there are several Wednesday morning men putting their hand up
to go with Tony if Liz doesn’t!!

Tennis Tasmania Board of Directors
I was fortunate to be elected to the Tennis Tasmania Board of Directors at the TT AGM held
on 6 October, so I look forward serving the sport at that level. Thanks to all those who
supported my bid.

used to put towards a first aid kit which will be purchased when the kitchen is put back
