Demo Changes for Mathilda Narrative:
General = identify and correct any global changes needed in database
1. Report form = no ID numbers and spell out months and memo/tag wit. Optn.
2. Global edit places = remove “(now UCC)” and spell out St. Louis County
Paragraph 1 (Vital Stats)—Divide Memo Fields and/or Sentence Variations:
1. Birth sentence = [P] was born <[D]> <[L]>. <[M].>
2. desired = insert parents names and add “at 6 o’clock in the morning” “in the
Yaeger family home”
divide M into M1, M2 using pipe stems and rearrange in sentc
use: right click, cur per, parents and add commas before and after
show result = double commas; fix.
[P] [PAR], was born [M1] <[D]> [M2] <[L]>
Placement of comma after footnote no. can’t be fixed.
Period results automatically; can’t combine events in same sentence.
3. Baptism sentence desire less complete place.
Change L to L2 in L3, L4 and edit.
[P] was baptized <[D]> <[L2]> in [L3], another town in [L4].
4. Marriage sentence desire reverse order.
begin sentc with D
change L to L2 in L3, she m…
M still conditional in case more info available on wedding for memo
<[D]> <[L2]> in [L3], [P] married [PO] <[PARO]>. <[M].>
5. Death sentence try inserting phrases instead of M1 and M2
insert “at her home” before WG
only L3 for place
add M at end of sentc.
edit M to “h.c. (l.c.) and “the f… took place at the …. Arrangements…
Company…
[P] died <[D]> at her home <[L3]> <[A]>, [M]
6. Burial sentence: change L1 to “in the Schulz family plot at L2 in L3”.
[PF] was buried <[D]> in the Schulz plot <[L2]> in [L3]
Paragraph 2 (Name)—fix witnessed events, change sort order, use exclusion:
1. Prebirth witnessed event.
Desire to omit sentence completely; info already incorporated in birth sentence.
Change her witness sentence to -- so default sentence doesn’t return when deleted.
2. sort names = bp. name, then name var M, then common name T.
3. first: change pronoun to her, change verb to “was reversed and,” and add
explanation using memo field,
[PP] baptismal name, [N], was reversed and <[M]>
Personal pronoun will only capitalize at beginning of sentence, so can’t add M as
first sentence, reversing order.
4. second: name var = covered in first sentc, so omit sentence; include only <[M]>
Or M explanation can be used in footnote instead.
But, M can only be used as footnote if NOT included in sentence.
Enter -- as sentence.
5. third: edit to: More commonly [P] was known as [N]
6. Census could be a footnote source for another sentence, and omit sentence here,
or leave as is or sort to different location.
Demo: change memo tab and tags tab options and witnessed event, 1880 census,
disappears.
New Paragraph 3 (Education)—making paragraphs and adding long memos:
1. add CR and Tab from right click menu
Demo results if at beginning or end of memo
Discuss alternative of custom tags with CR and Tab already incorporated.
2. reverse sentc order for variety.
[:CR:][:TAB:]<[D]> [PF] would have attended school. <[M]>
3. Add M at end of sentc. (Type = Tahoma 8 pt, if want to copy in from elsewhere)
Can’t indent quote in TMG, or put in quotes, so quotation edited in Word.
4. Religion comments not needed; make witness sentence –
Be careful to edit correct Mathilda; father’s sister also = Mathilda!
New Paragraph 4 (First Home)—dealing with P1 vs. P2:
1. CR Tab
2. Copy P2 to P1? PO, P differ depending on who is subject. Use P1, P2 instead.
3. Land:
[:CR:][:TAB:] In July [Y], six months prior to their marriage, [P1] purchased a lot along
Big Bend Road from the subdivision of [P2FS] father, [FATH]. [M]
4. Residence:
After the couple married, they made their home at [P1FS] new house, what was then
<[L2]> (now 8522), only two houses from [P2FS] parents. <[M]>
5. Could add M at end of either sentence and write descriptions of land and house.
6. Census = footnote source or change to:
In 1900, [PF] <|and [POF]> appeared on the census at this house.
New Paragraph 5 (Second Home)--elaborate:
1. Buying second home:
[:CR:][:TAB:]<[D],> they bought another house at <[L2],> also in <[L3],> and moved
there. <[M]>
2. again option census as footnote source or change to
[PF] and [POF] appeared at this new home on the <[D]> census
