eiNetwork User’s Group Meeting September 7, 2005 Cybraryn Updates The eiNetwork has updated all Cybraryn software modules. The update included fixes for the auto snooze, email messages no longer truncate, desktops are more secure (CLT>ALT> Delete> will no longer allow you to get back to the desktop), and printing requires a name to place a print request. This feature makes it easier for staff to release the correct print jobs when a patron picks up their print jobs. The eiNetwork staff is working with the vendor to fix new issues that are occurring since the software update. This includes double booking from the queue station and page counting inaccuracies for print jobs on the HP 2300N and 2400N printers. The vendor will be sending a printer fix soon. The eiNetwork staff will test the software fix prior to pushing out the update to the PCs. ILS Updates Catalog Enrichment During September there is a trial of a Catalog enrichment product from Syndetic Solutions, Bowker Inc. This product works with our Web OPAC catalog and incorporates elements that enhance The Catalog content. A survey link has been added to the main Catalog page for patron feedback. A slightly longer survey will be distributed to staff. The information we receive on the surveys during the trial period will help determine the elements that will be selected for an annual subscription. Feature Lists The New York Times Hardback Best Sellers list for fiction and non-fiction has been added to the Feature Lists. Based upon user request, the Book Award lists for Teen and Children will shortly be added back to the Featured Lists. Requests can be made directly from the lists as they are linked to the OPAC. New Material Type Icons The following Material types have been indexed and can be used to limit searches in the Web OPAC (Advanced Keyword) and in the Millennium modules (Limit by Material Type). These Material types have previously existed, but were not indexed and searchable in the past. OPAC Icons have been created for these Material types. Map Kit 3-D Object Print Image Digital Image CDROM/Computer file material type will now display as Electronic Resource Upcoming Reports Class The eiNetwork will be offering a new Reports Training Class. The class will be approximately two hours long and will review web management reports and reports posted by the eiNetwork. The class will cover ideas about when and how to use these reports. This class will be offered on an ongoing basis. In transit Clean Up Significant progress has been made on cleaning up in transit items. Thanks for taking care of this! Approximately 37% of the in transit items that were older than 30 days but less than 1 year have been cleaned up. More cleanup lists will be sent out. Northland Migration The Northland migration is on track for mid-October. Matching Bibliographic and Items records will be merged on to an established Bibliographic record in the Union Catalog. If the Bibliographic record does not meet match, then a new Bibliographic record will be added to the catalog. After this initial data migration is completed, a clean up will occur for all the bibliographic records that were added to ensure that duplicate bib records do not exist in the Union Catalog. All patron data that have Northland-unique bar codes will be added into Millennium. Patrons with eiNetwork, ACLA, or other library barcode numbers will not be migrated. All of Northlands circulation and fine data will be migrated to the Millennium system. Northland will not be migrating holds from their system. Already all Northland requests are placed in the eiNetwork system. Northland is attempting to fill those holds for pick-up at Northland from their own collection and deleting the hold. eiNetwork Mobile Training Lab The eiNetwork now has a Mobile Training Lab. The lab consists of 10 laptops with the standard image, a projector, and a wireless access point. Libraries that are interested in borrowing the equipment for training should contact the Support Center to reserve the mobile lab equipment. All of the Mobile Training Lab equipment fits into two cases approximately 14 inches high and 20 inches long and includes a dolly to transport the equipment from a vehicle to the site. New Shipping Labels Ms. Verminski demonstrated how to process the New Shipping Labels. The cost of the labels is $46.00 per pack of 250 sheets. Each sheet has 8 labels. Please contact the Support Center to order labels for your library. The eiNetwork purchased one software license for each library and the software will be activated on one PC at each location. The software is necessary to convert the paging list into a form that can be printed on the yellow labels and each library should have one PC with the software installed by the end of next week.
