The 2013 YALE IV The Yale Debate Association invites you to participate in the sixth annual Yale Inter-Varsity Parliamentary Tournament, to take place at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut on Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5. Competition The tournament will consist of five preliminary rounds (the first four of which will have open adjudication), followed by a varsity quarters break and a novice* final round. All rounds will be debated in the British Parliamentary style, and we plan to strictly enforce Worlds-standard seven minute speaking times. This will be an excellent opportunity for teams to prepare for Worlds. Additionally, all APDA members who advance to semifinals will also automatically qualify for APDA’s 2014 National Championships (although competitors will not earn -OTY points). We are pleased to announce that our adjudication core will be led by Ben Kornfeld and Nate Blevins. Ben is a former WUDC semifinalist, the champion and top speaker of the 2013 US Universities Debating Championships (USUDC), and on the 2013 Team of the Year in American Parliamentary Debate. Nate was the 2011 North American champion, a USUDC finalist, an Oxford semifinalist, and a two-time WUDC octofinalist. Joining Ben and Nate on the adjudication team will be Paul Gross and Sam Ward-Packard. Paul has judged the open semifinal round of WUDC Berlin and served as the CA for many tournaments in the Northeast; as a debater, he was a USUDC semifinalist, Yale finalist, and Oxford quarter-finalist. Sam is the reigning national champion in British Parliamentary debate and was top speaker at USUDC 2012. The conveners of the Yale IV will be Anirudh Sivaram and Allison Douglis.
