Dr. Kaplan is currently an attending pathologist at Evanston Hospital, Evanston, IL and assistant professor of pathology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, IL. He was formerly medical director of cytopathology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC and founder and medical director of the Army Telepathology Program while stationed at Walter Reed. The Army Telepathology Program now consists of 23 sites located worldwide that enables dynamic, real-time consultation between pathologists and clinicians. This is the first and only telepathology network of its kind for use in clinical practice that exists to date. Dr. Kaplan received his BS degree in Medical Technology from Michigan State University and MD degree from Northwestern University. He completed his anatomic and clinical pathology residency at Walter Reed. He has published and lectured on telepathology and telecytology and serves on the College of American Pathologists Informatics Committee, Instrumentation Committee and Ad Hoc Committee on Digital Imaging. He has received numerous awards for his work in the field of telemedicine and telepathology.
