GIRLS’ HOCKEY DURATION OF GAMES, WARM-UP PERIODS AND OVERTIME PROCEDURES
Warm-up Period - A 10-minute warm-up period will be allowed for games.
Duration of Games - There shall be three (3) periods of (17) minutes of play, with intermissions of fifteen (15)
minutes between periods.
Overtime Periods for Post Tournament Play (all Section and State Tournament games)
In case of a tie at the end of regular play, follow the procedures outlined below:
1.
Teams must remain in the bench area
2.
3-minute rest period
3.
Teams switch ends prior to the start of each overtime period
4.
8-minute sudden death overtime period will be played
5.
Make ice with a 15 minute rest period
6.
17-minute overtime period will be played
7.
If a tie remains, follow procedure as indicated in 1-6 above
There is a possibility that an overlapping could occur as a result of a series of scoreless overtime periods,
therefore, the following procedure would be in effect for the State Tournament Series:
Wednesday & Thursday games will be played to completion.
Friday Morning (Class A Semifinals)
Game #1 - If the score is still tied after the third overtime period, the game will be called and continued
on Saturday morning beginning at 8:00 a.m. and continued as outlined until the tie is broken.
Game #2 - If the score is still tied after the third overtime period, the game will be called and continued
on Saturday morning beginning at 8:00 a.m. or following the previous game if Game #1 had ended in a
tie.
Friday Evening (Class AA Semifinals)
Game #1 - If the score is still tied after the third overtime period, the game will be called and continued
on Saturday morning beginning at 8:00 a.m. or following the previous game if Game #1 or #2 had ended
in a tie.
Game #2 - The game will be played to completion.
Saturday Morning (Class A & AA 3rd Place)
Game #1 – If after three (3) overtime periods, the score remains tied, the game will be called and
recorded as a tie game and duplicate trophies will be awarded.
Game #2 – If after three (3) overtime periods, the score remains tied, the game will be called and
recorded as a tie game and duplicate trophies will be awarded.
Saturday Evening (Class A & AA Championship)
Game #1 – The game will be played to completion.
Game #2 – The game will be played to completion.
