Patron of Heritage Awards 2008 – Design of Award Pieces for the Ceremony
Every year, specially commissioned works of pottery inspired by NHB’s logo are
conceptualised for the Awards. This is part of NHB’s efforts in profiling young
ceramicists and promoting ceramic arts in Singapore. The Patron of Heritage Awards
offers a national platform for these artists to showcase their unique talent and design
of a heritage symbol that will eventually be presented at the Awards.
This year, pottery pieces revolving around the theme of heartshare have been
produced for the award categories of Distinguished Patron, Patron, and Partner of
Heritage. The other categories – Supporter and Friend of Heritage – will receive
similarly themed ceramic medallions.
This year’s awards takes on a deliberately abstract design to reflect the NHB’s
contemporary and progressive approach to heritage development. The broad strokes
resemble hands joined in motion, symbolising the coming together of different sectors
towards a common goal, while the vibrant strips of colours represent our multi-ethnic
and multi-cultural community. Together, the design pays homage to the harmonious
and lively interaction of our diverse people.
