During this period I got maximum opportunity to refine my surgical skills and grow as a competent neurosurgeon. I got to operate on various complex brain and spinal cases. I was able to operate all kinds of malignant brain tumours like astrocytoma, medulloblastoma, and also benign tumours like meningioma and schwannomas. Apart from this I also operated on cases of spine tumours, degenerative spine disease and pediatric neurosurgical cases. Apart from neuro-oncosurgery I had wide exposure to vascular neurosurgery, functional and stereotactic neurosurgical cases. I continued to be involved in resident teaching and also in regular shop-floor teaching for SHOs, medical students and nursing staff. Apart from this I was actively involved in research and publications. I also continued cadaveric dissection in our microneurosurgery lab and published my work too. I was able to be more involved in departmental management such as various clinical meetings and educational symposiums. Previous Appointments August 2006 - July 2007 Senior Registrar I, Seth GSMC & KEM hospital, MUMBAI During this period as first year resident in department of neurosurgery, I get my first experience in management of neurosurgical cases. I got opportunity in assisting in various cranial and spinal, stereotactic and angiographic cases. Apart from this I got to operate simple cases like chronic subdural hematoma, abscess tapping and ventriculo-peritoneal tapping. I was actively involved in pre and post operative care of all patients. I got exposure to management of various post operative complications. This period also involve learning neuroanatomy by working in cadaveric dissection laboratory. I also assisted my seniors in arranging departmental educational meetings. August 2007 - July 2008 Senior Registrar II, Seth GSMC & KEM hospital, MUMBAI During this period as second year neurosurgery resident I was actively involved in management of trauma cases. In our tertiary care institute we get on an average 10 cases of head injury per day with 1 to 2 requiring surgical intervention. I got ample experience in operating epidural hematoma, subdural hematoma, intra parenchymal contusions, and depressed fractures. Apart from this I did few simple stereotactic procedures. I was also able to do few simple spinal cases like lumber spine decompression and prolapsed intervertebral disc. Apart from this I got involved in data collection and research work for publications from department. I was also involved in teaching of staff and juniors. August 2008 – July 2009 Senior Registrar III, Seth GSMC & KEM hospital, MUMBAI This was my final year as resident in department of neurosurgery. During this period I grew academically and in my operative skills. I had chance of operating on various supra and infra tentorial brain tumors. I operated on posterior fossa tumours, cerebral astrocytoma, and few convexity meningiomas. Apart from this I operated on spinal tumours and degenerative spinal cases. I also did diagnostic angiography for vascular cases. I also assisted my seniors in various complex neurosurgical cases.
