This integration creates the opportunity for teachers and students to engage in a hybrid-learning environment. We are looking to fundamentally change teaching and learning by moving to a differentiated learning experience. The experience is meant to personalize instruction to the needs of an individual student in order for the student to achieve to a measured standard. Teachers develop the integrated lessons through Instructure’s Canvas Learning Management System. Canvas allows teachers to work with a dynamic electronic lesson delivery system. All courses that students receive in the classroom are made available in this digital mode. Teachers and students can access lessons while in class or any other location. The live or asynchronous occurrence provides multiple possibilities for student engagement. Written, video, and audio resources are organized around the lesson objective for student learning. Assignments and assessments can flow between teacher and student. Educational Content All students are assigned a Canvas login to access lesson material. Content for all courses is available in Canvas. Assignments needing accommodations are posted within the lesson material. Other specifically designed instruction is tailored for the individual student. At all levels, a special education teacher, in conjunction with the classroom teacher, make the necessary accommodations. Equipment All students are provided a tablet for home and school use in accessing lesson material. Students may use personal devices for accessing lesson material, unless they require access to a specific school purchased app. Facilities Schools will be open and available to provide Internet access to students that do not have home access during specially scheduled dates. o High School o Middle School o Eddystone Elementary o Woodlyn Elementary o Amosland Elementary Buildings will be open for student connectivity from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Students will work independently in the school library, or other supervised location determined by the building principal. An adult must accompany all K-5 students. Supervision/Support Schools that are open for connectivity have an administrator available. Certified teachers, including special education, will be available to provide direction for accessing material prior to the digital make up day. A technology support person will be available in the building for on-site assistance. A technology call center and email account will be available for assistance. Course and grade level teachers will be available for instructional assistance by way of a closed email system. Special education teachers will be available for instructional assistance by way of a closed email system. The Digital Learning Platform Counselor and Teacher on Special Assignment (Technology Coach) provide support in preparation for digital instruction for the students and teachers. Teachers may create student partnerships within and across grade levels for additional support. Special Education Out of District Placements will follow the school calendar. All special education students will participate in digital make-up days. Students that qualify for PASA will be offered a blended learning experience that consists of paper and pencil as well as digital learning experiences. In addition to the DLP make up day(s), RSD will offer compensatory time to assure FAPE for those students that qualify for PASA. This time will be offered prior to the start of ESY and will not conflict with the regular RSD calendar or any of the out of district ESY programs. Additional days would take place at Leedom, Ridley Middle School, and Ridley High School. In addition to the DLP make up day(s), RSD will offer compensatory time for all other students with and IEP to assure FAPE. District personnel will correspond with the parents of those students with IEPs to inform them of the additional compensatory time and ask these parents to notify the district if they wish to have their child participate in this option. Transportation No transportation will be provided since neighborhood school sites are available. Food Service No food service operations will be provided. Administrator Responsibility A parent digital dialogue night that shows parents how to access material is provided. All students have their login and password. All teachers have student’s login on Canvas. All content is loaded in Canvas with appropriate work time demands for attendance. During vacation periods being used for make up days, the building library will be available with scheduled times for independent student work and Internet access. An administrator will manage the learning environment. Buildings will be open for student connectivity from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Student attendance is verified by login to the Learning Management System. Administrators monitor teacher responsibilities. Questions regarding Canvas and course content may be addressed to the Assistant Director of Curriculum, Raymond Howanski. Central office will secure certified staff for monitoring buildings. Teacher Responsibility All students have their login and password. All students have logged into the Canvas course account during class time prior to 11 April 2014. Finalized assignments are posted on Canvas by 7 April 2014. Student attendance is verified by assignments completed by 4:00 pm 21 April 2014. Assignments may be reviewed between 4 pm on 11 April 2014 and 7 am 21 April 2014. Assignments may be graded when student submits as completed, with all assignments graded and reported in PowerTeacher by 4:00 pm 30 April 2014. Teacher will respond to email questions within 48 hours during the weekend or vacation period when make up days are required. All other response times must be within 24 hours. Student Responsibility All students have their login and password. Questions regarding assignments will be emailed to teacher. Assignments may be completed between 4:00 pm on 11 April 2014 and 7:00 am 21 April 2014. All completed work will be graded upon submission to the teacher. No work will be accepted after 7:00 am 21 April 2014. Buildings will be open for student connectivity from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Students may work at any school designated as a connectivity site. Rules for the individual school building must be followed. All students must abide by the District Acceptable Use Policy. Parent Responsibility All students have their login and password. Internet connectivity will need to be secured. If there is not access at home, any designated neighborhood school will be available for accessing lesson material. Buildings will be open for student connectivity from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. K-5 students must be accompanied by an adult. The parent arranges student transportation. All students must abide by the District Acceptable Use Policy.
