Encourage/Ask
When your child is reading a book it is very important to encourage your
child to think about the words and phrases that the author includeshas the author included a word to create an effect. If so, ask your child
to point out words that have been used to create an effect. Does it
make the reader feel scared? Excited? Wanting to read more?
Currently working at level
Firstly, explain to your child that the words which they use when they are
speaking are very different to the words which they use within their
writing. Encourage them to find new words in dictionaries and find out the
meaning. Show them how to use the new words within sentences; can they
use them as an adjective?

When your child has problems to solve, ask them to use the RUCSAC
method- 1. Read the question, understand what it is asking you to do, apply
a calculation, solve the problem, answer the question and check the answer.
It is really important to discuss the calculation part.
It is really important that your child understands the difference
between written and spoken English. Talk to the children about the
differences- which one is more formal? Less formal? Why? Do they
recognise the different times they will need to use both?

standard english.
