Use a dash [ — ] (or two hyphens [ -- ] on old-fashioned typewriters) or dashes as a super-comma or set of super-commas to set off parenthetical
elements, especially when those elements contain internal forms of punctuation: example sentence: All four of them—Bob, Jeffrey, Jason, and
Brett—did well in college.
The dash can also be used to include ranges, such as between dates, times and numbers. Also dashes can be used used to contrast values, or
illustrate a relationship between two things
