Do you like to watch clouds float by? You may have noticed that there are
many different shapes of clouds. Clouds are named for the way they look. Cirrus
clouds are thin and high in the sky. Stratus clouds are low and think like a gray
blanket. Cumulus clouds are white and puffy.
Do you know how clouds are formed? The air hold water that the warm sun
has pulled, or evaporated, from Earth. When this water cools in the air, it forms
clouds. When a cloud forms low along the ground, it is called fog.
Clouds hold water until they become full. Warm clouds that are full of
water produce rain; cold clouds that are full of water produce snow. When water
falls to Earth as either rain or snow, it is called precipitation.
