REFUND OF NORFOLK AIR TICKETS
NOTICE TO PERMIT HOLDERS
As a result in the change in airline servicing Norfolk Island from Australia some permit holders with an airline ticket have
received a refund on their current tickets.
Permit holders in this category are required to purchase another ticket or lodge a bond with the Immigration Section in
order to satisfy that requirement of their permit. Permit Holders who have already purchased a ticket with Air New
Zealand are requested to submit a copy of their ticket to the Immigration Section so that a copy can be placed on their
file and to satisfy the Immigration requirements.
Information regarding the bond arrangements can be obtained by contacting the Immigration Section on 22140
extension 2.
Compliance checks will be carried out to ensure the condition as listed in the Policy & Guidelines is satisfied. Permit
holders who have obtained a refund should contact the Immigration Section to advise what alternate arrangements have
been made.
Persons who do not comply with this requirement will be in breach of the conditions of their permit.

ROADS ACT 2002
Part 7 – Miscellaneous
Notice regarding maintenance of public roads  Removal of overhanging trees
All landowners are reminded that the removal of vegetation growing on private properties which is obstructing any
adjoining or adjacent public road, and creating an inconvenience or danger to users, or to maintenance of a public road
is a legal obligation of each of the owners of any property where such overhanging vegetation exists.
Land owners are reminded that under section 29 of the Roads Act 2002 (Part 7) [the ‘Act’] each land owner is required,
at their own expense, to cut or remove any offending vegetation or to remove the obstruction, inconvenience or danger
or to remove any extension of such vegetation onto or over the road reserve affected by their land.
A statutory notice under section 29 may be served on each land owner of affected land or may be published in the
Government Gazette identifying the affected land and giving 30 days in which action to remove the offending vegetation
must be taken by the land owners.
If the overhanging vegetation is not removed within 30 days of such a statutory notice being served or published in the
gazette, the relevant Minister may authorise a person such as the Works Depot/Roads staff to cut and remove the
vegetation, rectify any damage caused by the vegetation and to enter the affected land at any reasonable time for that
purpose and the relevant land owners who have not complied with the notice will be liable for any costs so incurred for
which they will be invoiced from the Norfolk Island Administration accounts department for this service.
Such a debt will be recoverable from the affected land owners within 60 days of such invoice with the land owners also
paying interest thereon and which debt and interest will be a charge on the affected land.
A decision to issue a section 29 statutory notice is not a reviewable decision under sections 18 and 19 (Part 5 –
Administrative Review) of the Act. This gazette notice is not a statutory notice but is a general community information
notice. It is not legal advice and should not be relied upon as such.
The public works department will shortly take action to identify land which is affected by overhanging vegetation.
Whether an assessment is done or not, land owners are legally responsible for preventing vegetation on their land
overhanging or affecting any roadway on Norfolk Island.
If you are uncertain whether your land is affected by vegetation overhanging a road, you are encouraged to please
contact me on 22006 ext 4 or at dcreek@admin.gov.nf if you require any further information or so an assessment can be
done free of charge.
