DEPARTMENT OF DENTISTRY June 5, 2014 Dear Doctor, The Jersey Shore University Medical Center in affiliation with the Monmouth-Ocean County Dental Society is proud to present the 2014-2015 program of Continuing Dental Education. We are happy to invite you to join this educational community as we enter our 39th consecutive year of providing quality continuing education at the Jersey Shore. In keeping with our commitment to Excellence in Continuing Dental Education, we will again be presenting for you the top dental educators in the country. Please join us as a member of this very popular program. All the courses are full day programs, 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. (registration and continental breakfast at 8:00 A.M.). This year we are again looking forward to valuable and informative programs in many disciplines of dentistry. The September 17th program will feature the very popular speaker, Dr. M. Nader Sharifi, who will present a comprehensive and timely program on contemporary removable prosthodontics with accent on implant attachments. On October 15th, our good friend Dr. Stan Malamed will present a great program emergency medicine, as only he can do it. Your staff will be invited to this timely program. As always, there will be strong scientific programs, with the acclaimed dental educator Dr. Robert Fazio, with a new program on oral medicine and periodontitis; Dr. Terry Donovan, from UNC on “Restoration of the Worn Dentition”; and Dr. Ed Swift, on restorative dentistry and materials. On March 11th, we have the honor of presenting a very motivating speaker, Dr. Dean Vafiadis, who will be presenting his program on digital dentistry and full mouth reconstruction. The May 6th program will feature the always entertaining and informative Dr. Howard Farran, who will present the famous “One Day Dental MBA” lecture. Other top dental educators who will be presenting programs include: Dr. Jeff Rouse, on everything you wanted to know about implants; and to round off this great program, the motivating Dr. Jimmy Eubank on the interaction of esthetics and function. As you know, over the last 39 years, our mission is to provide the highest quality continuing dental education program at the lowest possible tuition. We have done it again with this program. The tuition for all nine informative, enjoyable days with your colleagues will be only $1245.00. All of the speakers that come through our program absolutely marvel at this low tuition for such a top line-up of speakers. This continuing dental education program is one of the very few in the entire country that does not accept corporate or commercial sponsorship. You all know the disastrous effects pharmaceutical and medical device corporate sponsorship had on Continuing Medical Education. Our lecturers marvel at our commercial free program in terms of the quality, the service, and the low tuition. Gordon Christensen says that our lecture series is one of the best buys in commercial free continuing dental education in the country. Jersey Shore University Medical Center Dental Education is proud to be CERP accredited by the ADA, and is an accepted sponsor for FAGD/MAGD Credit. On October 22nd of this year we are planning to present an integrative medical/dental program on mind/body medicine and stress reduction. It will be presented by doctors from the prestigious Harvard Mind/Body Institute. As a member you will receive first preference for registering for this program, at a discounted tuition. Also, on October 7th we will be cosponsoring another Oral Cancer Early Detection seminar. As always, as a member you will enjoy discounted tuition fees for your staff at lectures that are open to auxiliaries. The October, December, and May programs will be open to your staff. Please join us as a member of the nine course academic program, and please act promptly to insure your place, because this program with these speakers will sell out quickly. Live programs, in the company of your colleagues, are still the most effective and enjoyable way for you to continue your education. You will not find another program with this quality at a convenient location, in pleasant surroundings, at these prices. If you could take these courses, with these top speakers, individually, the tuition would be over $2500.00. Please use the attached registration form as soon as possible to register at the special tuition of $1,245.00, and mail to Dr. Fred Paperth by August 1st to insure your place. Looking forward to seeing you at the courses. Sincerely, Paul & Fred Paul Condello and Fred Paperth JSUMC Continuing Dental Education WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2014 JSUMC LANCE AUDITORIUM, NEPTUNE, NJ Implant Assisted Removable Prosthodontics M. Nader Sharifi, D.D.S., M.S. Adding implants under a compromised complete or partial denture may seem like a viable solution to provide improvement for our struggling patients. This course will clarify the specific steps that will have a huge impact on the success of these removable reconstructions. Here, participants review state-of-the-art procedures for the highest quality removable prosthodontics – and discuss procedures from case design to prosthesis delivery, impression making, and “claspless” partial designs. The course will include a thorough review of the science, fact and opinion of adding implants under an RPD. For the completely edentulous patient, participants will review the necessary steps in making complete dentures successful while learning that these are the same steps that make overdentures successful. Each restorative dentist will be able to apply complete denture principles of impression making, recording centric and vertical dimension of occlusion as well as occlusal design to their denture and overdenture cases. We’ll discuss many overdenture attachment options that are on the market. These will be broken down into simple categories to understand their similarities. We’ll create clear guidelines for selecting one overdenture attachment over another. Everyone will learn how many implants are necessary – and in what location for today’s treatment and tomorrow’s possibilities. This course is entirely based upon materials and techniques that can and should be implemented in clinical practice. Participants leave with more confidence and a clear understanding of clinical treatment ideals, including: Clarify the most important clinical steps to achieve patient success for RPDs Learn to modify impression techniques for attachments and implants Discuss the critical steps for success with complete dentures & overdentures Classify different implants and attachments to better understand their use This full-day course is geared toward general practitioners, prosthodontists and laboratory technicians. WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2015, SHERATON EATONTOWN HOTEL “Can I Ask a Question About Implants?” Jeffrey S. Rouse, DDS Having restored subperiosteal, transmandibular, blades and all forms of endosseous implants over the past 25 years, Dr Rouse has created a day for your study club where all of the members unanswered questions can literally be answered…”bar or attachment”, “single crowns or multi-unit”, “prefabricated or custom abutment”, “cement or screw retained”, “hybrid or overdenture”, etc.,etc.,etc. While it is intuitive that a single implant cannot be appropriate for every case, implant prosthodontics has become one size fits all. Each implant design has inherent prosthetic benefits and limitations. This lecture classifies the implant systems based on the prosthetic connection and discusses case types best served by each design. Attendees will learn: 1. Implant platform requirements for improved prosthetic predictability in cases involving single teeth up to full arches. 2. Benefits of custom abutments over prefabricated and why it is more affordable than most think 3. Implant overdenture designs and how they differ between maxilla and mandible 4. Cement or screw retain…or both? Jeffrey S. Rouse, D.D.S. maintains a full-time private practice and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. After graduation from dental school in San Antonio, Dr. Rouse completed a 2-year General Practice Residency at the University of Connecticut Health Science Center.
