FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN I POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION: Field Service Technician I REPORTS TO: Field Service Manager SUPERVISES: N/A DATE PREPARED: September 3, 2003 NATURE AND SCOPE Provides field repair and shop services for valves, actuators and general process control instrumentation. Provides new installation and start up services for valves, actuators and general process control instrumentation. Consistently maintains technical competence with products and services represented by Caltrol, Inc., including their application and interaction with other process components. Maintains a working knowledge of related products and services offered by others. PRIMARY DUTIES Performs Field Service duties that include: o Repairing valves, actuators and instrumentation at customer’s facilities or in the Caltrol shop o New installation and retrofit of valves, actuators and process control instrumentation at customer’s facilities o Calibration of field instruments such as level, pressure and temperature transmitters o Trouble shooting process control equipment, including valves, actuators, field measurement instruments, and final control devices. o Performing valve/actuator diagnostics o Takes field measurements which are needed for design of retrofit valve mounting hardware o Designing mounting brackets and couplings to connect valves and actuators o Recommending appropriate corrective actions based on equipment evaluation Prepares written field service reports. Assists with shop assembly needs as time permits Conducts customer training -1- Assists customers with problem resolution. Interacts with customers to promote service contracts Interacts with customers, factory and other Caltrol teams/departments to develop process improvement and increased customer satisfaction. Other duties as required. REQUIREMENTS 1. 3 – 5 years of experience as a field service technician and/or demonstration of general electrical/mechanical competency. A working knowledge of process control. 2. Works well under pressure: sometimes meeting multiple and conflicting deadlines. 3. At all times demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors. 4. Strong Customer Service skills. 5. Verbal and written skills to effectively communicate. 6. Ability to read and interpret written work instructions and technical manuals. 7. Ability to evaluate technical data 8. Strong electrical knowledge including a. Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams – single phase, three phase, ac and dc b. Ability to troubleshoot electrical problems 9. Strong mechanical knowledge 10. Ability to understand and use electrical test equipment including a. Multi-meters b. Current generators c. Other electrical test equipment as required 11. Basic knowledge and use of personal computers 12. Ability to understand and safely use of standard hand tools 13. Strong knowledge of valve actuators including a. Electric actuators b. Pneumatic actuators c. Hydraulic actuators 14. Physical abilities required include a. Climbing ladders b. Climbing towers in customer plants c. Ability to work in confined spaces d. Ability to work on elevated platforms -2- e. Must be able to lift to 50 lbs. 15. Team attitude and willingness to coordinate projects internally. 16. Must be able to travel. 17. Willingness to work overtime as situation requires QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED Background in process control preferred. Knowledge of products represented by Caltrol, Inc.: Fisher Controls, Bettis, Limitorque, and ASCO Knowledge of products from major valve and instrumentation companies TRAITS Organized. Analytical.
