College Level Examination Program (CLEP) CLEP TESTING OVERVIEW College credit examinations are widely accepted by colleges and universities. By passing these examinations, service members may earn one-third or more of the credits required for a college degree. The American Council on Education (ACE) recommends college credit for all the following credit-byexamination programs. DANTES funds CLEP testing for eligible Arkansas National Guard members, Arkansas National Guard members' spouse, and other military branch personnel at the Education Test Center at Camp Robinson. General Examinations. It is possible to earn as many as 30 semester hours of college credit by successful passing the CLEP General Examinations. Subject Examinations. The CLEP Subject Examinations measure knowledge of basic concepts, principles, relationships, and applications involved in college courses with the corresponding title. American Council of Education (ACE) recommends 3 semester hours of credit for most of the CLEP Paper-based Subject Examinations with some recommended for 6 or even 12 semester hours depending on the institutions credit policy. All paper based CLEP examinations at the Education Test Center at Camp Robinson will be phased out by March 2004. CLEP tests that are to be withdrawn: Effective 30 June 2003: CLEP Subject - General Biology; General Chemistry; Western Civilization I, Western Civilization II, College Level German and Humanities. Effective 6-10 October 2003: CLEP General - English Composition with Essay Effective 30 November 2003: CLEP Subject – History of the U.S. I, History of the U.S. II, College Level Spanish & Principles of Accounting. Effective 30 November 2003: CLEP General - Natural Science, College Mathematics & English Composition. Effective 31 March 2003 – CLEP Subject - American Literature, Analyzing & Interpreting Literature, English Literature, Freshman Composition, College Level French, American Government, Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Management, Introduction to Educational Psychology, Introduction to Psychology & College Algebra. Effective 31 March 2003 – CLEP General – Social Science & History All CLEP General and Subject tests are now available as computer-based tests at National Test Centers. Each institution determines the acceptable score and the amount of credit granted for each examination.
