History IB reading list There is no specific reading list for the summer; however I have suggested a few titles of books that both complement the course and will give you an insight into the events and individuals that we will be studying this year. Why not pop down to your local library and see if you can take out one of these novels as your summer reading on the beach this year… *Wild Swans by Jung Chang (A fabulous insight into life in communist China plotting the lives of three generations of Chinese women. This is a really enjoyable and fairly easy read) *Stalin: The court of the Red Tsar by Simon Sebag Montefiore (An excellent insight into the life and loves of Josef Stalin. This book really gives you an understanding of both his personal and political life. Again an enjoyable and fairly easy book to read) A shattered Peace: Versailles 1919 and the price we pay today by David A. Andleman. (Less of a novel and more factual but a compact and interesting book on the impact of the Treaty of Versailles right up to present day) Hitler: A Biography by Ian Kershaw ( An interesting and perceptive book looking at the private and public life of Adolf Hitler There is an exhaustive list of biographies and historical books that you could read on the topic areas that we cover. Have a look at the course outline and see if you can find any book that really captures your interest and gives you more of an overall historical understanding and background of the topics that we cover. Read, relax and enjoy your summer… Mrs G
