Continuing Education Scholarship
A. Eligibility
 The applicant must be one of the following: (In order to determine your eligibility, please
check the category that applies to you.)
a. Any graduating high school senior who is a dependent of an Active Duty, deceased
or retired, to include National Guard, or Reserve military member (Officer or Enlisted),
assigned to and currently residing within 50 miles of Maxwell/Gunter AFB.
b. Any spouse or dependent of an Active Duty, deceased or retired, to include National
Guard, or Reserve military member (Officer or Enlisted), currently residing within 50 miles of
Maxwell/Gunter AFB who has not been a full time high school or college student the past
year.
B. Applicant Category
 The applicant must choose one category in which to compete; scholarships will be given in
each category (Please check the category that applies to you):
a. RED Category – 2011 graduating senior in a highly advanced academic program
with mostly AP, Honor classes, dual enrollment in college classes, to include homeschool
students currently in dual enrollment situations
b. ORANGE Category – 2011 graduating seniors with a more regular academic
course load; may include some honors classes, AP classes and/or dual enrollment
c. YELLOW Category - any spouse or dependent that meets eligibility and has been
out of high school or college for at least one year

Part I and Part II of the Scholarship Application
Part III: Essay Question answered in 250 to 500 words typed and double spaced.
Part IV: Two letters of recommendation
Part V: Guidance Counselor Verification/Official Transcripts OR Home School transcript
A photocopy of your dependent ID card, (Front and back sides, please).

PLEASE NOTE: All awards will be paid directly to the institution, not the scholarship recipient,
upon official written verification that they have been registered and are full time students
according to their university. The school must be an accredited institution that offers an
Associate or Bachelor's degree program, or an accredited vocational or business school.
Recipients will be determined by a selection committee. All applicants will be notified by
mail. All decisions will be final.

Payment of Grants and Policies Form - Continuing Education Scholarship
1.
The Maxwell Gunter Officers' Spouses' Club (MGOSC) Scholarship and Charitable Association,
a 501(c) (3) organization, will award several academic scholarships starting at $1000.

The awards will be presented in late April or early May.

Award winners will be determined based on demonstrated scholastic achievement (grades, grade
point average including final semester grades and college grades when applicable); ACT/SAT
scores; and involvement in school, community, and work. Financial need will not be a determining
factor.

The MGOSC will send the scholarship award check in August-September 2016, directly to the
accredited institution where the recipient's account is maintained. Recipients must use the
scholarship money before March 1, 2017. Unused funds will revert to the MGOSC. The MGOSC
will notify the accountable party when the check is mailed to the college.
5.
Applicant must be a legal dependent of a US military officer or enlisted personnel (active duty,
Guard or Reservist) assigned to Maxwell Gunter AFB or deployed from Maxwell Gunter AFB
(including 365-day rotation); a legal dependent of retired military; dependent of a deceased
military member (active duty or retired) residing within a 50 mile radius of Maxwell-Gunter AFB;
or a dependent of a government civilian employed at Maxwell Gunter Air Force Base.

Acceptance of a military academy appointment, or another OSC scholarship, before or after
selection as a recipient of an MGOSC Academic Scholarship, will automatically terminate
consideration for entitlement to an MGOSC scholarship. In such event, that scholarship will be
awarded to an alternate in order of merit.
7.
Children, wards or spouses of any MGOSC Scholarship Committee member are not eligible for a
scholarship in the year that person serves.
8.
Funds must be utilized at an accredited institution, vocational school, or business school.
No funds will be available for a Master's or other higher degrees of learning.
9.
Funds awarded under the scholarship will be paid directly to the institution upon receipt of an
official statement of enrollment.
10. If the recipient does not start using the funds by March 1, 2017, he/she must forfeit the award. If
extensions are necessary, a letter asking for an extension and explaining circumstances must be
postmarked by March 1, 2017 to the MGOSC.
11. The student must be considered a full time student by their institution and have a 2.5 GPA.
12. Transferring from one institution to another will not affect the funds. However, if a student fails to
utilize monies paid; the school is obligated to return the funds to MGOSC.
13. The selectee must notify the MGOSC Scholarship Chair of all address changes. Please include
contact address for student for 2015-2016 school year so that a confirmation letter for scholarship
payment can be mailed.
