Y6 Visit to the Weston Park Museum – Thursday 17th October 2013
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As part of our History topic on Ancient Greece, we have planned a visit to the Weston Park Museum,
to take part in the workshop ‘Offerings for Athena’. During this visit, the children will be truly hands
on when they build a Parthenon model - the Temple to Athena - which shows the internal as well as
the external structure of this World Heritage monument.
They will learn about the Persian Wars, the myths associated with Athena, the Panathenaea and
make ‘offerings’ for Athena. They will re-enact the festival procession, dressing up as Ancient Greeks,
and take their offerings to Athena in the Museum.
Last year, we travelled to the museum on public transport. This involved taking 2 buses each
way, at a total transport cost of £2.80 per child. It also meant a very early start (to arrive on
time for the workshop) and a substantial period of the day spent travelling! Therefore this
year, we have decided to travel by coach at a cost of £4.00 per child (only £1.20 more than
travelling by bus). We hope you’ll agree that it is worth it, in order to maximise the time we
spend in the museum.
Children need to be at school at the usual time and we hope to return by 3.15pm. They will need a
packed lunch (no flasks or glass bottles please) and outdoor clothing (including raincoats). We
suggest a maximum of £2 pounds spending money.
The cost of the trip will be £9.50. This includes £5.50 per child for the workshop and £4.00 to cover
transport.
May I remind you that payment for school visits is voluntary but should insufficient contributions be
received the visit will not be able to take place. If you are paying by cheque could you please write
your child’s name, class and visit on the reverse (cheques made payable to Bradway Primary
School). If you have any queries regarding payment please see the school office.
Please complete the attached reply slip and return to school by Friday 4th October 2013. We may
require parental help on the trip, so please indicate on the slip below if you are able to support on this
