GENERALITY
C.A.S supplies a range of sampler and skimmer cones for past and present VG (Fisons/Micromass), Sciex
(Perkin Elmer), Finnigan, Hewlett-Packard, Thermo Jarrell Ash, Spectro, Varian Instruments and Leco.
In some instances, purchase 3 or more cones and receive a special discount.
C.A.S has a reputation to be a supplier and manufacturer of high quality laboratory product accessories for
CHNOS, ICP, AAS. ICP-MS, now a more and more present on laboratory. To meet our customer request to
provide them good quality cones, we are please to announce that we now offer Spectron Cones. Spectron
has been providing quality cones at advantageous prices for 12 years, along with outstanding service and
technical support. We provide cones for all ICP-MS instruments and are an OEM supplier to 9 manufacturers.
C.A.S offer cones in a variety of materials. Nickel alloy 200 (pure nickel) is the industry standard and
comprises the majority of parts sold. Platinum cones are the next most popular choice and are very
economical for some applications. The platinum is alloyed with 10% rhodium, which significantly improves the
metal's resistance to various acids. All Spectron platinum sampler cones use an 18mm insert for optimum
lifetimes. The principle wear out mechanism is the erosion of the nickel at the Pt/Ni interface rather than orifice
wear. Strong acids, like aqua regia, will also significantly wear the orifice. By using a larger platinum insert,
lifetimes are improved. These Spectron designs have proven to be optimum in price/performance with
demonstrated lifetimes of more than 8000 hours.* Spectron's Pt refurbishing service can significantly improve
cone life.
C.A.S can supply cones made from special material such as aluminum, copper, titanium, tungsten and
stainless steel (non-plasma applications). We also manufacture hybrid cones such as those with nickel inserts
welded into copper bases for improved thermal characteristics when specified by the OEM. We are happy to
work with customers doing special applications or research, supplying special parts quickly and at very
reasonable
prices.

M ANUFACTURING & QUALITY ASSURANCE
Cones we provide are manufactured on CNC (Computer Numerical Control) lathes and mills as well as
manually by skilled machinists for operations not suited to computer controlled machine tools. This
combination of techniques and individual skills guarantees the best possible accuracy, precision and quality of
finish for consistent cone performance. This also benefits cost control for optimum price/performance value...
Cones are polished with polycrystalline diamond to at least a 3 micron finish to optimize performance,
followed by ultrasonic cleaning. This essentially eliminates any surface contamination. The skimmer tips are
"tuned" for proper sharpness. 100% final inspection is done using a 10-75X microscope and visual inspection
of all surfaces is the last step before packaging.

CONES SERVICES
C.A.S can provides special and prototype cones as well as variations of production products. This includes
different orifice sizes, geometries and materials. We are dedicated to advancing the state-of-the-art through
research and testing in cooperation with interested customers. Custom cones are done at very reasonable
costs with good lead times which will range with product requirement.
Nickel and platinum cones are usually off-the-shelf for all of the major ICP-MS instruments. Aluminum and
copper are also available. Non-standard parts can usually be delivered in less than three weeks and platinum
in less than four weeks.


C.A.S with Spectron will work with you to help solve any application difficulties that are suspected to be linked
to any product sold by Spectron.

PLATINUM CONE REFURBISHING
With Spectron we offers a lifetime cleaning and refurbishing service for Spectron platinum cones. We will
restore the cones to as near new condition as possible. This includes cones that have physical damage such
as from being dropped on the tip. Cones will not be refurbished if they are judged to be unserviceable. Price
for this is only shipment cost if it is a Spectron platinium cones origin
This refurbishing service is also available for other manufacturers' platinum cones for a nominal charge.
Spectron no longer offers this service for nickel cones. Spectron will examine any used cones for possible
refurbishing at no charge and will advise as to whether they are repairable before any work is done. There is
no charge if the refurbished cones do not work as expected. Take advantage of this easy-to-use, cost
effective service which can extend your cone life significantly.

PLATINUM TRADE IN CREDIT
For platinum cones that are not serviceable (any make), we will offer a credit against any future purchases for
the value of the platinum

GUARANTEE
The manufacturer guarantees cones for both performance and longevity. Because Spectron sells only the
highest quality products, we will exchange or take back product that is not totally satisfactory. The customer
is the judge.


Technical Note: Subject: VG 1006-Pt, 18mm Pt/10%Rh inserts
Spectron has been manufacturing and refurbishing VG1006-Pt sampler cones for over ten years. The original design was
based the idea that moving the Ni/Pt boundary out as much as possible, yet keeping the price reasonable was the best
solution to increased longevity vs. the 6mm insert that VG was using at the time. After refurbishing these cones for ten
years, we have noticed that the orifice will wear out well before the degradation of the Ni/Pt boundary region. With the
price of Pt/10%Rh doubling in the past 18 months, we have decided to decrease the Pt insert to 15.2mm and increase the
hole depth slightly and keep the price the same. We think that the lower tip temperature due to the smaller insert as well
as the increased hole depth will actually improve the cone lifetime. A case where less is more.
The 18mm insert will still be available for an additional cost but feel that the smaller insert will be more cost effective for
most applications
