BLOOD and SERUM COLLECTION PROTOCOL
FOR BLOOD COLLECTION:
Check the materials enclosed immediately.
You should have one numbered baggie with call name (for each dog).
Inside the baggie you will find:
1. 2 bubble wrapped glass lavender top tube with the dog’s blood number on it;
2. 2 sealed Vacutainer needles;
3. 2 plastic holders for the needle.
Have the dog’s blood drawn on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
When the 3-4 c.c. (per tube) of blood is drawn, re-wrap the lavender top tubes in the bubble wrap, secure them with the tie, and put
them back in the baggie. DON’T SEND ANYTHING ELSE BACK!
BLOOD SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS:
You have received One FEDEX Box, ready to assemble, with One FEDEX Airbill, already addressed in a clear envelope.
Assemble the box; put the blood in its baggie inside, along with some crumpled paper so it won’t rattle around. This blood is never to
be frozen. Do not include ice packs or dry ice. Ship the blood the same day it is collected. Ship only on Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday, or Thursday - FEDERAL EXPRESS Standard Overnight delivery. If you are unable to ship until the next day, put the
blood sample in the refrigerator. It will be okay for one or two days ONLY.
FOR SERUM COLLECTION:
*** Serum should be collected on fasting dogs. This is a little less convenient for you owners, but it means that you should, if
possible arrange for the serum draw on a morning and your dog(s) should receive no food from the previous evening until serum is
taken. However, they can and should have plenty of water to drink during this period. ***
Check the materials enclosed immediately.
You should have one numbered baggie with dog’s name (for each dog).
Inside the baggie you will find:
1. two glass red top tubes with the dog’s i.d. number on it;
2. two sealed Vacutainer needles;
3. two plastic holders for the needle.
Have the dog’s serum, approximately 4 cc per vial, drawn. Spin down and put it back in the baggie, we will pour it off. Be sure each
sample is marked with the i.d. number and call name. We will not need anything else sent back.
SERUM MAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
