Keith Gordon Alberts
Keith Gordon Alberts of Nashville passed away at his home Saturday night,
May 20, 2006. He was 71.
Mr. Alberts was born at home in Goodland, June 11, 1934, to John and
Grace Alberts. He married Patricia Troup on July 29, 1956, in Kentland.
He attended Purdue University, until the death of his father, when he
returned home to take over the family farm in Goodland. After his retiremant
from farming, he joined his wife Patricia and daughter Susan Fleener-Apple in
their business of Alberts Antique Mall and Alberts Suites in Nashville. Mr. Alberts
also owned arcade and video rental businesses at Alberts Mall.
He was a member and past Master of the Goodland Masonic Lodge. He
transferred his Masonic membership to the Nashville Lodge. Mr. Alberts was also
a member of the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis and the Nashville United Methodist
Church.
He served with the Ambulance Company 113th Medical of the Indiana
National Guard for eight years. Mr. Alberts also served with distinction for 20
years on the Selective Service Board.
Mr. Alberts was an accomplished musician. He played trombone with The
Starlighters Dance Band. The band played throughout the Midwest and at times
accompanied the Tommy Dorsey Band. He was also known for his Shaker Chime
performances at Alberts Hall.
Survivors include his wife Patricia; daughter, Susan; son-in-law, Keith
Fleener; grandchildren, Andrea Alberts of Chicago, Ill., Ursula alberts of New
Albany, Zachery (Terri) Fleener of Fishers and Clayton Fleener of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Alberts of Goodland, his parents
and brother, LaDonne Alberts of California.
The visitation will be at 1 p.m. May 24 with a memorial service following at
2 p.m. at the Nashville United Methodist Church. Pastor Wade Compton will
officiate.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Nashville
United Methodist Building Fund. Contributions may be sent to the church at P.O.
Box 518, Nashville, IN 47448.

Aldine A. Antcliff, 97, of Brook, died at 10:12 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2010, at Jasper
County Hospital Alternacare in Rensselaer.

Mildred F Allis
Mildred F Allis, 90, of Brook passed away Thursday, Jan 18, 2007 at 7:45
p.m. in her home. She was born on August 28, 1916, in Sheldon, Ill. She graduated
from Sheldon High School in 1934.
She was a homemaker. Mildred married Fred D Allis on April 3, 1936, in
Watseka, Ill. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1987, in Rensselaer. She
enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading and sending e-mails to family and friends.
Survivors are two daughters Lois F Hartwell, (husband Walt) of Brook, Susan
E Thompson, (husband Dave) of Ridge Springs, SC. And one son Tom L Allis (wife
Marlowe) of Goodland, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and three
great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was at Gerts Funeral Home in Brook on Sunday, Jan 21, from 5-7
p.m. Services were held on Monday, Jan 22, at 10 a.m. with Rev Ken Marsh
officiating. Interment was at Sheldon Cemetery following services. Mildred was
preceded in death by her parents, one son, one grandson, one granddaughter,
one sister and one brother.
Memorials may be made to St Jude’s Hospital or the charity of donor’s
choice.

Milton S Anderson
Milton S Anderson, age 87, of Morocco passed away Tuesday, Feb 20, 2007
at his home. He was born on Feb 23, 1920 in Donovan, Ill. To John W Anderson
and Nellie Florence (Grant) Anderson, both deceased. He was educated in the
Donovan Schools and graduated with the Class of 1937.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was married to Marilois Carter in
Morocco on March 21, 1943, and she survives. He was an Engineer’s Assistant for
the Indiana State Highway Department for over 10 years. He also farmed for
several years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of
Morocco.
Survivors are his daughters Jill dean (Woodrow) Hammel of Dyer and
Jenalyn (Robert) Reninger of Holly Springs, North Carolina, a son John Milton
Anderson of Morocco, and a sister Mamie Sarah (Ivan) Babbitt of Morocco.
Grandchildren are Courtney Lynn Hammel, Kristen Lois Gryze, Kacey Jeanette
Crucie and Tyler Swan Reninger. A great-grandchild, Dylan Carter Gryzch also
survives.
Services were held on Friday, Feb 23 at noon at the First United Methodist
Church of Morocco. Pastor Sam Polito officiated with the Steinke Funeral Home of
Morocco in charge of the arrangements.

Lawrence C Bannon, 96, Sebring, Fl., formerly of Morocco and Brook, died
at 8:20 a.m. Sunday, June 20, 2004 at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis.
No visitation was scheduled.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Brook United
Methodist Church with the Rev Susan Beckett officiating.
Burial will be in the Brook Abbey Cemetery, Brook.
Memorials may be made to the Brook United Methodist Church, Morocco
United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Elenora R Barbosza, 82
Elenora R Barbosza, age 82, of Morocco, passed away at Rensselaer Care
Center, following a two year illness, at 7:20 p.m. on March 8, 2007.
Born July 10, 1924, she had been a Morocco resident for most of her life.
She attended school in Newton County and was a beautician for 26 years.
Surviving is son John (Janet) Barbosza of Middleton, Ohio and her very
special friend Barbara Koutny of Lake Village. Also surviving are several
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters and daughter Eva
Kephart.
Visitation was held from 9-11 a.m. on Monday, March 12, with a funeral
service officiated by Rev Jack Snell at Steinke Funeral Home, Brunton Chapel,
Morocco. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery, Morocco.

Avery Kane Bell
Avery Kane Bell, 19, of Kentland and formerly of Rensselaer, passed away at
9:16 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.,
while awaiting a bilateral lung transplant. He was born Sept. 10, 1988, in
Rensselaer, the son of Chris and Robin (Spalding) Bell.
A former resident of Rensselaer, he was a member of the First Presbyterian
Church of Rensselaer and attended the Rensselaer Schools for 11 years. Avery
transferred to South Newton High School his senior year, graduating with the
class of 2007. He was a freshman at St. Joseph College for one semester before
becoming ill.
Avery was an avid baseball player and Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed
fishing with his family and friends. While a student at St. Joseph College, he
participated in the baseball program there.
Avery is survived by his parents, Chris and Robin Bell; two brothers,
Christopher and Ryne Bell, all of Kentland; one sister Kim Hottels of San Francisco,
Calif.; grandparents, Robert and Paula Bell of Rensselaer and Chuck and Bonnie
Spalding of Cadiz, Ky.; great-grandparents, Paul and Joan Cochran of Rensselaer,
Cleora Bell of Remington, Ind., and Audrey Purvis of Lafayette, Ind.; many aunts,
uncles and cousins, along with Tim Clark, a very close friend of the family.
Avery was preceded in death by his great-grandfathers, Ray Bell and Max
Delong.
The family received friends on Sunday, May 4, 2008 from 2-8 p.m. at the
Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer. Funeral Services were Monday, May 5, at
10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Rensselaer with Rev. Gerald Egger
officiating. Interment followed at Weston Cemetery in Rensselaer. Memorials
may be made to the Avery Bell Scholarship Fund by procuring the proper
envelope at Jackson Funeral Chapel.

Donald E “Tater” Blankenship, 74
Donald E. “Tater” Blankenship, age 74, of Kentland, passed away at 6:48
p.m. Friday, March 2, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Center, Lafayette.
Born Jan 1, 1933 in Fowler to the late Wilbur and Pauline (Buzzard)
Blankenship. He was a 1951 graduate of Fowler High School. Blankenship was
trained in sonar and radar in the U.S. Navy, in which he served from 1952 until
1956 in the Korean Conflict.
He married Connie Dorton on May 14, 1952 in Fowler and she survives.
A resident of Kentland since 1956, he was a glass cutter at Capital,
Kentland, and he trained and groomed race horses. He coached seventh grade
girls basketball for 28 years, and seventh and eighth grade girls track for five years
at South Newton School Corporation. He coached all levels in Kentland Summer
League Baseball for 18 years, and took Babe Ruth All Star teams to the state finals
eight of those years.
Mr. Blankenship was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church,
Kentland, the Kentland American Legion and the Illinois Harness Racing
Association.
Surviving with his wife is son Bernie (Becky) Blankenship, Kentland;
daughter Cari Hoaks, Kentland; and grandchildren Casey Blankenship, Lafayette,
and Jennifer, Jamie and Aaron Hoaks, Kentland. Also surviving is an aunt, Wanda
Foster of Otterbein.
He was preceded in death by parents Wilbur and Pauline Buzzard
Blankenship.
Visitation was held from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6 at McMullan-Stitz
Funeral Home, Kentland. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday,
March 7, with a one-hour visitation prior to services, at Trinity United Methodist
Church, Kentland. Rev Joseph Smith officiated. Burial with military rites was at Mt.
Gilboa Cemetery, Fowler.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, American Lung
Association and the Kentland Fire Department.

Brian Joseph Blount
Brian Joseph Blount, 26, Goodland, formerly of Brook, died Wednesday, Jan
30, 2008, as a result of an automobile accident near Goodland. He was born April
19, 1981, in Hammond, Ind., to Tracy Allen Kinley and Karen Blount. He was a
mechanic at Petro Plus in Remington. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of
Eagles in Rensselaer, the V.F.W. of Rensselaer and the American Legion of
Medaryville. Brian enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by daughter Brianne Marie Blount of Maryland and son
Calvin Fredrick Blount of Goodland; companion Britney McCord of Goodland;
mother and stepfather Karne and Phillip Shaffer of Brook; father and stepmother
Tracey Allen and Melanie Kinley of Indiana; brother Aaron Shaffer, Brook; sister,
Brandy Lee Kinley of Indiana and Monica Shaffer of Brook; two stepsisters,
Jennifer Walker of Tennessee and Phyllis Shaffer of North Judson; grandmothers,
Eileen Blount of Rensselaer and Darlene Kiss of Indiana; grandfather, Jerry Kinley
of Gary; great-grandmother, Pam Howell of Indiana and Grandma Kinley; step
grandparents, Kenneth and Patricia Shaffer of Crown Point; special aunt, Dawn
Herbert Ross of Hammond; many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews
and friends.
Visitation was Saturday, Feb 3, 2008 from 12-3 p.m. (CST) at the Gerts
Funerald Home, Brook. Funerald services were Monday, Feb 4, at 11 a.m. at the
Brook Methodist Church with Rev. Sue Beckett officiating. Burial took place at
Riverside Cemetery, Brook.
Memorials may be made to family wishes.

Also surviving Miss Bohlinger are several nieces and nephews. Her mother
preceded her in death in 1973. Mr. Hall is also survived by his paternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hall and maternal grandparents, Mrs. Hazel
Lindahl and Thurmond Keown. One sister preceded him in death.

Mary F Bower, 83, of Kentland passed away May 2nd. The McMullan-Stitz

Roy L. Burks
Roy L. Burks, 78, of Fowler, formerly of Earl Park, died Tuesday, April 29,
2008 at 6:29 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette. He was born May
21, 1929 in Freedom, Ky., the son of the late Erastus and Lorena (Davis) Burks and
was a graduate of Temple Hill High School.
He married Betty “Sue” Viggers in 1947 in Munfordville, Ky., and she
survives.
Mr. Burks farmed for 35 years in the Benton County area. He was a
member of the 1st Baptist Church of Kentland and the Benton County Country
Club at Fowler. He enjoyed golfing and watching his grandchildren’s sporting
events.
Surviving with his wife are a son, Tim (Cheryl) Burks of Kentland; three
daughters, Shery (Greg) Silvers of Fowler, Sheila Donohue of Fowler, and Jenny
(David) Hall of Lafayette. A sister, Phoebe (Billy Joe) Peden of Townsend, Tenn.,
survives as do grandchildren, Michael (Chris) Spangler of Rensselaer, Doug (Dana)
Spangler of Fowler, Brent (Amanda) Spangler of Fowler, Carmen (Brian) Flook of
Earl Park, Cory (Hayley) Donohue of Seymour, Kayla and Tanner Hall of Lafayette,
and Brian Silvers of Fowler and 11 greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dana Sue Spangler, two
brothers and a sister.
Cremation rites were accorded. Visitation was from 4 until 8 p.m. (CST)
Friday, May 2, 2008 at the 1st Baptist Church of Kentland. A funeral service was
held at the church at 11 a.m. (CST) Saturday, May 3, with Rev. Bill Hal and Rev.
Larry Schuringa officiating. Inurnment followed at the Blue Ridge Cemetery near
Raub.

Delvin R Burnside
Delvin R Burnside, 66, Brook, died at 12:53 a.m. Friday, May 7, at Jasper
County Hospital, Rensselaer.
He was born June 7, 1937 in Morocco, the son of Ralph J & Anna L Dunkin
Burnside.
He married Janice Marie Burrell March 10, 1961, in Morocco. She preceded
him in death Dec 14, 1983, in Rensselaer. He later married Pearl M. Warran
March 24, 190 in Rensselaer.
Mr. Burnside served in the Air Force from 1955 to 1963.
He was a truck driver for McClain Trucking and Hi-Way Dispatch, and was a
member of Central States Teamsters Union Local 142 in Gary.
He is survived by wife Pearl M. Burnside of Brook; two daughters and sonsin-law, Carol A. and Allen Deno of Brook and Linda and John Miller of Lake Villa,
Ill.; one son and daughter-in-law, John W and Dawn Burnside, of Lake Village;
three step daughters and spouses, Pam and Alan Anderson of Valparaiso, Cindy
Gamblin of Valparaiso and Jaclin and Robert Miller, of Concord, N.C.; two brothers
and sisters-in-law, James and Florence Burnside of Morocco and Ralph Jay and
Jenell Burnside Jr. of Hasting, Neb.; one sister, Doris Sisco of Kentland; seven
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and seven step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation was from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at Gerts Funeral Home, Brook.
Funerald services were at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with
Richard Gerts officiating.
Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Brook.

John Mearlin Burton, 63
John Mearlin Burton, age 63, of Remington, Ind. passed away Wednesday,
February 28, 2007, at 5:18 a.m. at his residence.
He was born March 21, 1943 in Rensselaer to the late John Wilbur and Ruth
(Penny) Burton.
Mr. Burton was a graduate of Brook High School. He married Eileen
Margaret Gordon on June 27, 1969 in Goodland and she survives. He was a U.S.
Air Force Veteran serving from 1964 to 1967 in the Vietnam War.
Mr. Burton worked for thirty years for Northway of Rensselaer, ten years
for APW of Monon, and five years in maintenance at Grandma’s Truck Stop.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and drinking coffee while visiting with his
friends.
Survivors include his children, Denise Willenbrink of Springboro, Ohio,
Cindy (Brandon) Del Hoyo of Matthews, N.C., and Kelly (Kenny) Gerhardt of
Lafayette; brothers, Philip Burton of Brook and William Burton and Larry Burton,
both of Goodland; one sister, Linda Schwier of Elkhart; three granddaughters and
two grandsons.
Visitation was on Friday, March 2, from 5-8 p.m. at the Stitz Funeral Home
in Remington. Funeral Service was Saturday, March 3, at 10:00 a.m. at the Stitz
Funeral Home with the Reverend Thomas Fox officiating. Burial with military
rights at graveside was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Remington.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
Arrangements were handled by the Stitz Funeral Home in Remington.

Donald H. Cady
Morocco - Donald H. Cady, 77, died at 3:55 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 1994 in his
residence.
He was born June 11, 1917 in Iroquois County, Ill. to Harrison Barnibe and Edna
June Keath Cady and he was a lifetime resident of the area.
Mr. Cady was married on Nov. 14, 1936 in Sheldon, Ill. to Juanita May Denton. He
was employed as a carpenter and farm manger for the E & M ranch in Enos, Ind.,
he retiring in 1975. He was an avid fisherman.
Surviving with the wife are four daughters, Mrs. Bonnie (Larry Dale) Crofford of
Thompsonville, Ill., Mrs. Judy (Larry) Bingham and Mrs. Lois (Larry) Fox, both of
Morocco, and Mrs. Donna (Bill) Person of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Larry (Jan) Cady
of Lake Village and Gaylord "Butch" (Sandy) Cady of Mishawaka; two sisters,
Virginia Brammer of Sheldon and Joan Johnson of Papineau, Ill.; two brothers,
Keath Cady of Grand Rapids, Mich. and Raymond Cady of Daytona Beach, Fla. 17
grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by a son, Leonard Edward Cady, two brothers and two
sisters.
Friends may call at Lang Funeral Home in Morocco on Friday, July 8 from 6 p.m.
until 9 p.m. The funeral service will be there on Saturday, July 9 at 11 am.
Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Morocco.

Mildred Lavon Calvert, 72, of Kentland, passed away May 1st. The
McMullan-Stitz Funeral Home, Kentland, was in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn Ellen Clark
Kathryn Ellen (Ball) Clark, age 100, of Rensselaer, formerly of Newton
County, passed away Tuesday, Feb 20, 2007 at the Rensselaer Car Center. She was
born on March 13, 1906 in Kosciusko County to Argus Glenn Ball and Ida
Metressie (Young).
She lived in Kosciusko County for 23 years, then lived in Newton County for
67 years before moving to the Rensselaer Care Center. On October 5, 1931, in
Paxton, Ill., she married George R Clark who passed away on December 31, 1971.
She attended the Teachers College in Indianapolis. She was an elementary
teacher for 33 years in Burket, In., Morocco, Colfax School, Newton County, Cedar
Lake, Wolcott, Camden, Roselawn, and in Lafayette area. She was a member of
the United Methodist Church of Morocco, a member of the D.U.V. and a member
of the Newton County Retired Teachers.
Kathryn Clark was survived by her daughter Martha F (Gray) White of
Morocco, Son-in-law John Vasquez of Donovan, 5 grandchildren, 1 greatgrandchild, 2 brothers Glenn (Jane) Ball of Dayton, Ohio, J.L. (Doris) Ball of
Kalamazoo, Michigan and 1 sister Mildred McFarren of Warsaw, Kathryn Clark is
preceded in death by her husband, George R Clark, her parents Argus Glenn Ball
and Ida Metressie (Young) a daughter Virginia Vasquez and a brother Elza Ball.
Services were held at the Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer with Rev
Sam Polito officiating on Thursday, Feb 22, 2007 at noon. Burial followed at the
Oakland Cemetery of Morocco. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist
Church of Morocco.

Richard A “Dick” Cloose
Richard A “Dick” Cloose, 69, of Marion, Ky., formerly of Lake Village, passed
away on may 4, 2008, in Kentucky. He was born on Feb 4, 1939 in Pinewood,
Minn., to Alice (Hendrickson) and Rudolph Cloose, both deceased. On Nov 18,
1961, he married Maybelle “May” Koshney who passed away Feb 7, 2000. Dick
was co-owner of Country Classics Furniture in Lake Village and managed Ray’s
Auction in Lake Village. He had served with the Minnesota National Guard and
had attended Bemidji High School in Bemidji, Minn.
He is survived by his children, Linda (Jeff) Pullins, and Jay Woudema, both
of DeMotte, Joe Cloose and Rich Cloose, both of Lake Village, and Carrie Dailey, of
Lafayette; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; close friend, Sandra
Martin, Marion, Ky,; brothers, Dennis (Bonnie) Cloose, Dean (Shirley) Cloose, and
Donnie (Alvira) Cloose all of Minnesota and a sister, JoAnn Jernigan of Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife May, daughter Lori Bass and
brother Dale Cloose.
Friends called on Thursday, May 8, 2008 from 208 p.m. at the Jackson
Funeral Service, 200 Third St. SW, DeMotte. Funeral services were on Friday, May
9, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Jackson Funeral Service of DeMotte. Interment took
place at Roselawn Cemetery, Roselawn.

William C. Dalton
William C. Dalton, 68, of Winter Haven, Fl, passed away on March 20, 2008,
from complications after open heart surgery and stroke. He was a graduate of
Goodland High School. He was in the National Guard and U.S. Army.
Survivors include one daughter, Christina Siegfield (Tim) of Winter Haven,
Fl.; two sons, William Dalton (Tracie) of Pacifica, Calif. And Scott (Stephanie) of
Pacifica, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Dreyden, Lauren, Emily, Rachel, Steven, Cole
and Julian; two brothers, Virgil E. Dalton of Baton Rouge, La.; and David Dalton of
Delphi, Ind.; five sisters, Marjorie Hanna of Winter Haven, Fl., Barbara King of
Midland, Mich., Dorothy May of Remington, Alive Medley of Remington and
Nancy Coogan of Salt Lake City, Utah.
A memorial service will be Sunday, June 22, 2009 at Gerts Funeral Home in
Goodland at 11 a.m. with Richard E. Gerts officiating.

Robert “Bob” Spencer Davis
Robert "Bob" Spencer Davis, 87, of Asheville died on Friday, July 16, 2010.
A native of Ames, Iowa, he was the son of the late O.W. and Mabel Buchanan
Davis. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, John H.
Davis and James H. Davis; and a daughter, Elizabeth Jean Davis. He served in the
U.S. Navy during WWII, and was an alumnus of Iowa State University where he
received his B.S., University of Chicago where he received his M.A., and
McCormick Theological where he received his M.Div. Rev. Davis had served as a
United Methodist minister and missionary, and was attending Biltmore United
Methodist Church in Asheville. Known for his generosity, he did volunteer work
for MANNA food bank, CROP, Givens Estate, Habitat for Humanity, and Biltmore
United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Ella Jean Woods Davis; sons, Kenneth D. Davis
of Mission, KS, John R. Davis of Raleigh, David P. Davis of Carlisle, Ind.; daughter,
Margaret Davis-Mintun of Indianapolis, four grandchildren, and two great
grandchildren.

Anna C DeGroot, age 87, of Goodland, passed away Saturday, March 17,
2007 at George Ade Memorial Health Care Center in Brook.
She was born on September 29, 1919 in Lochiel, Ind., to Ernest and Ethel
Sigman DeGrott who preceded her in death.
She was a retired factory worker having worked for Better Coil and
Transformer in Goodland for 35 years. She was a member of the First Baptist
Church in Goodland and was a volunteer at the nursing home for many years and
really enjoyed the Sing-a-long.
Surviving are one sister, Alma (husband Maurice) of Rensselaer, two
brothers, Ernest (wife Betty) DeGroot of Goodland; Louis (wife Billie) DeGroot of
Rensselaer; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Ethel DeGroot; three
sisters, DeLoris DeGroot, Louise Ekstrom and Evelyn Crowden.
Visitation was held on March 20 from 10 to 11 a.m. with funeral service
following on March 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gerts Funeral Home in Goodland, Ind.
Interment was in the Goodland Cemetery.

Lucile Deno, age 78, passed away at 9:39 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2007
in her Goodland home.
Born August 4, 1928 in Newton County, she graduated from Goodland High
School in 1947. She worked as an advertising coordinator for Midland Foods in
Michigan City, where she resided at the time, for 15 years. She enjoyed
gardening, cooking and her dog.
Her marriage was to Robert Deno in 1947 in Goodland. He preceded her in
death in 1994.
Surviving are daughter Catherine (Wayne) Waymire, Ambia; sons Jeffery E.
(Bonnie) Deno, Lebanon, and George R. Deno, Indianapolis; sisters Betty (Rex)
Whaley, Goodland and Sally West, Donovan, Ill; a brother, George L. (Meg)
Woods, South Carolina; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother.
Visitation was held from 9-10 a.m. on Friday, March 23 at Gerts Funeral
Home, Goodland. Funeral services were held at same at 10 a.m. on March 23,
with Rev. Robert Bernotas officiating. Burial was at Goodland Cemetery.

George William Dye, 93
George William Dye, age 93, of Kentland, died Sunday, March 4, 2007 at
7:45 p.m. at Regency Place of Lafayette.
Born July 5, 1913 in Ridgevile, WV to the late William E. and Mary Horman
Dye, he was a 1933 graduate of Rensselaer High School, attended Purdue
University for two years and graduated from South Bend College of Commerce
and Accounting in 1936. He was a veteran, serving in the Navy with the Navy Sea
Bees. He married Mary E. Butz on May 29, 1947 and she survives.
Mr. Dye was the owner/manager of the Kentland Lumber Company and
retired fro the lumber business in 1981 after 44 years in business.
Active in the Boy Scouts from 1927-1977, he was a Scout Master for 15
years and was an Eagle Scout. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, number
361 F&AM, where he served as Past Master, he was a member of Kentland Rotary
Club, where he had served as Past President. He was also a member of the
Holiday Rambler Camping Club and was a past assistant state manager from 19891993. A member of the Methodist Church since 1919, and United Methodist Men,
he collected and repaired toys for Henderson Settlement Mission in Kentucky at
Christmas for 40 years.
Surviving with his wife are daughters Peggy (Jack) Lawrence, Brook; Linda
(Romano) Romani, Oregon; sons Stephen (Deb) Dye, Brook; William (Janice) Dye,
Indianapolis; sisters Elizabeth Walker, Elkhart; Rosalie Dausman, Bremen; and
grandchildren Seth and Colin Lawrence, Christopher and Jennifer Dye, Alex,
Abigail and Mallory Dye, Kevin Lilly and Cindy Gibson.
Visitation was held March 7 from 4-8 p.m., with a 7:45 Masonic Service, at
the McMullan-Stitz Funeral Home, Kentland. Funeral services were held Thursday,
March 8 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev Joseph Smith officiating.
Interment was at Fairlawn Cemetery, Kentland, with military rites accorded.

John H “Jackie” Eisen II, age 24, of Vincennes, formerly of Goodland, passed
away March 8, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes.
Born Jan. 28, 1983 in Bolder, Colo. to John and Deb Eisen, Goodland, he is
survived by his parents and husband Jim Fairchild, Vincennes. Also surviving is
sister Samantha (Tendaysi) Jera, Goodland; grandparents John H Eisen of Oak
Lawn, Ill. And Virginia Shantz of Hammond. Also surviving are several aunts and
uncles and nieces Juliana Jera, Goodland, and Claudia Lawson, Connerville.
Mr. Eisen worked as a call center clerk for N.T.I. and was a member of the
Gay Rights Movement. He enjoyed working on his computer, collecting baseball
cards and woodworking.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. on March 17 at First Baptist Church,
Goodland. The Revs George Kehler and Martha Williams Jordan officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to spinal cord research or Aids
research.

Lillian Floyd (1914-2010)
Lillian Floyd, 96, of Morocco passed away July 27, 2010 at Jasper County Hospital.
She was born Feb. 17, 1914, in Medford, Wisc., daughter of the late Frederick and
Matilda (Rabbidean) Kaemmerer. She was a graduate of the Medford High School,
Teachers College and a course in Library Science from the University of Wisconsin.
She was assistant librarian at the Medford Public Library for five years and
librarian there for six years until her resignation on Dec. 31, 1948. On Nov. 23,
1948, she married Paul J. Floyd at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford,
and moved to his farm near Morocco, Ind. Paul preceded her in death on Oct. 16,
1987.
In June 1964, Lillian became librarian for the Newton County Contractual Library
in Morocco and served there until her retirement on Dec. 31, 1984. She was a
member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Rensselaer, a member of the
Christian Women Society, St. Ann Study Club, K C Auxiliary, Past President of the
Newton County Homemakers Extension Club, Jackson Hi Neighbors, Smile Club,
Jolly Twelve, Willing Worker, Pinochle and Euchre Clubs and Newton Bella Red
Hats. Lillian enjoyed reading, travel and cards.
There are no immediate survivors. Visitation will be at Steinke Funeral Home
Brunton Chapel in Morocco on Thursday, July 29, 2010 from 4 until 8p.m. with
Rosary Service at 7 p.m., Fr. Gilbert officiating. Funeral Mass Friday, July 30, 2010
at 10 a.m. (Rensselaer Time) at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Rensselaer. Fr.

Eva E. Garrity (1955-2010)
Eva E. Garrity, 54, of Brook passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010 in her Brook
home. She had been a resident of Brook since 1998, having moved from Chicago.
She was born Sept. 7, 1955, in Chicago and graduated from Truman High School in
1973. She attended two years of business college in Chicago. In 2004, she married
Michael A. Garrity in Rensselaear, and he survives.
Eva owned and operated the Rumors Bar in Brook. She enjoyed reading, animals,
people and cooking.
She is survived by her mother Dzidra Hodkevics of Brook. Her father, Vilen Mozay
M.D. preceded her in death.
Visitation is Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at the Gerts Funeral Home from 2-3 p.m. A
funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Ken Marsh officiating. Interment will
be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the family to help with funeral

Harley Wayne Gibson
Harley Wayne Gibson, 81, passed from this life to be with the Lord on
Sunday, April 27, 2008. He was born Oct. 22, 1926, in New Liberty, Ill., to Webb
and Elsie Gibson. Harley was the oldest of seven children. Preceding him in death
were three brothers and one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II.
He married Betty Jean Menser on Aug. 23, 1947, and she survives. He is
also survived by three sons and one daughter, Harley (Cheri) Gibson, Jr. of Brook;
Steven Gibson of Morocco; Michael Gibson of Fair Oaks; Susan (Ron) Amey of
Lafayette. Also surviving are brother, Larry (Vergie) Gibson of Morocco, sister
Diana Dewey of Rensselaer, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, along
with many nieces and nephews.
Harley lived and farmed in Newton County for 40 years and owned and
operated a trucking business for several years before retiring in 1991. He was a 50
year member of the Morocco Masonic Lodge 372 and 32nd Degree Scottish Rite,
Valley of Indianapolis. He was active in the community serving on the North
Newton School Board and the Soil and Water Conservation Board and the ASCS
Board.
Visitation was Tuesday, April 29, from 3 until 8 p.m. at the Beaver Township
Community Center and services were Wednesday, April 30, at 10 a.m. at the
Beaver Township Community Center with interment following at Memory
Gardens in Rensselaer. The family has requested donations to the American Heart
Association.

Floyd K. Hall
Floyd Kenneth Hall, age 30 of Rt. 1, Lake Village, died at 5:50 a.m. Wednesday,
December 24 of injuries received in a one vehicle accident near the intersections
of County Roads 800-N and 400-W in Newton County.
A native of Spokane, Washington, Hall served in the Army in the 36th Evacuation
Hospital in Viet Nam and was employed as a mechanic at Inland Steel. He married
Gerry Jean Lane on October 27, 1965 and she survives. He is the son of Floyd H.
and Sarah Jeanette Hall of Morocco who also survive.
Mr. Hall was a member of the Morocco United Church and a member of the
American Legion, Post 146.
Surviving with the wife and parents are three sons, Kenneth, Kevin, and Kyle Hall,
at home; two brothers, Charles and Donald Hall; one sister Gladys Hall and
maternal grandmother Mrs. Lovella Starnes, all of Morocco.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 27 at the Hancock-Cardwell
Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Lewis officiating. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery,
Morocco.

Floyd H. Hall, 74, of Hardin, Texas, died at 7:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 1994 in
Baptist Hospital, Liberty, Texas. He had lived in Hardin since 1981 and was a
former Morocco resident.
Hall was born April 19, 1919 in Wadena, IN to Charles Henry and Lydia Genevieve
Dewey Hall. He married Jeanette Starnes who survives. He was retired from
Inland Steel where he had worked as a diesel machinist for 30 years. He had
served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in WW II and was a member of the Morocco
American Legion Post 146.
He is survived by 2 sons, Charles Hall of Morocco and Donald Hall of Calumet; 2
daughters, Gladys Irene Skinner of Port Richey, Florida and Jerry Dawson of
Camdenton, Missouri; 2 brothers, Gene Hall of Kentland and Russell Hall of
Reedsport, Oregon; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by his parents and one son, Kenneth Hall who died in 1975.

Donald R. Hall, 59
Goodland - Donald R. Hall, 59, of Goodland died at 7:10 a.m. Sunday Dec. 3, in his
home in Goodland. He had been in ill health for seven years.
Mr. Hall was a general welding supervisor in the engineering department at
Northern Indiana Public Service Co., where he worked for 32 years.
Born Sept. 5, 1936, in Goodland, he graduated from Wadena High School in 1954
and attended Purdue University. He married Glenda Kay Lupke on July 17, 1960,
in Goodland. She survives.
Mr. Hall was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a former
member of Goodland Fire Department, Kentland American Legion, South Newton
Production Co., South Newton Athletic Boosters, IVFA and EMT's. He had been a
Boy Scout master and a Little League coach. He was fond of camping, art,
shopping and cooking.
Mr. Hall served in the Navy from 1953 to 1957.
Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Jacqualine M. Carroll of Fowler; six sons,
Donald D. "Porky" Hall of Kentland, Michael J. Hall, Jared E. Hall and Matthew
Dillon Hall, all of Goodland, Jason A Hall, at home, and Jeffrey C. "Pudd" Hall of
Highland; his mother, Madge Hall of Lafayette; and two sisters, Jeanie Brouillette

Brook - James Hall, 84, died Wednesday in George Ade Memorial Hospital, Brook,
where he had been a patient 12 hours.
He was born in Newton County and had been a life resident of the Brook
community. He owned and operated the first service station in Brook for 36 years
before his retirement. In 1910 he was married to Anna Branson at Rensselaer.
Surviving with the widow are three daughters, Mrs. Josephine Edgren of Silver
Spring, Md., Miss Florence Hall of Indianapolis and Mrs. Ethel Klaus of Merrillville;
one son, James Hall of El Paso, Tex., and two sisters, Mrs. Lulu Ulyat of Remington

William C. Hall, 67, retired machinist at Ross Gear Division TRW, died at 7:05 a.m.
today in Home Hospital. He had been hospitalizes since Monday and in failing
health two years.
Born in Jasper County, he was reared in Benton County and was a graduate of
Wadena High School. He came to Lafayette 22 years ago and resided at 1314
Hedgewood Dr.
He was employed at Ross Gear for 18 years, retiring in 1974. Prior to that he
farmed in Benton County.
Mr. Hall was a member of Goodland Presbyterian Church.
In 1933 he was married at Fowler to Madge I. Cain, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Jeannie) Brouillette of Mission
Viejo, Calif., and Mrs. Curtis (Carolyn) Wilson of Lafayette; one son, Donald R. Hall

Kentland - Thelma Hall, 86 died Wednesday evening, Sept 24 at the Iroquois
Memorial Hospital, Watseka, Ill.
Born Sept 22, 1911, in Kentland she married Fred Hall in 1928. He died in 1976.
She was a lifelong resident of Kentland.
Mrs. Hall was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Covenant Federated Church in Kentland.
Surviving are four sons, Lloyd and Melvin Hall, both of Fowler, and Carl and Earl
"Buck" Hall, both of Kentland; three daughters, Doris Tagg of Fowler, Mrs. Bill

owner, died at 2:30 p.m. in George Ade Memorial Hospital where she had been a
patient two weeks. She had been a resident of the George Ade Extended Care
Facility nine months, and in ill health one year.
Born in Jasper County, she had resided at Brook since 1921. She was married in
1910. Her husband, James, preceded her in death in 1967.
Mrs. Hall attended Brook United Methodist Church and was a member of WSCS of
the church, Brook Business and Professional Womens Club, Iroquois
Demonstation Club and George Ade Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Josephine M. Edgren of El Paso, Texas,
Miss Florence M. Hall of Indianapolis and Mrs. Ethel P. Klaus of Merrillville; a son,

WATSEKA, ILL. - Mrs. Eunice Hall, 63, became ill at her home here Monday
morning and was dead on arrival at 6:20 a.m. at Iroquois Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 5, 1923, in Milford, Ill., she had lived in Watseka for many years. She
was married July 8, 1944, in Watseka, to Eldon H. Hall. He died July 6, 1983

Bradley R Hillis, 25, of Lafayette, passed away at Regency Hospital in East
Chicago on Wednesday, Jan 17. He was born on Dec 26, 1981, in Rensselaer, the
son of George S and Rebecca (Moore) Hillis of Lake Village. He had lived in
Newton County most of his life.
He graduated from North Newton High School with the Class of 2007 and
received a Business Management Degree from Ivy Tech. He attended the Faith
Mission Assembly of God Church at Shelby, Ind. He was employed at the Tru
Green Chem Lawn Care of Lafayette for several years.
He is survived by his parents, sister Amber (Charles) Winebrenner of
Roselawn; brothers, Dustin Gary of Lake Village and Cory Hillis of Lafayette;
special niece, Elizabeth Anderson of Roselawn; his grandparents, Leroy and Bertie
Moore of Oakwood, Ill., and many many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ross and Helen Hillis.
Funeral services were held at the Morocco Elementary gymnasium on
Saturday, Jan 20, with Pastor Jack Virgin officiating and interment followed at the
Oakland Cemetery in Morocco.

James E Hollingsworth, 80, Goodland, died at 10:03 a.m. Thursday, May 6,
at the Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer.
He was bon March 13, 1924, in Benton County, the son of George & Olive C
Hagenbaugh Hollingsworth.
He was a lifetime resident of Goodland/Wadena area and attended
Wadena High School at Wadena, graduating in 1942.
He married Mary Ellen Ellsworth Oct 12, 1944, in Goodland.
Mr. Hollingsworth served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1944.
He worked as a welder for NIPSCO for 10 years and also farmed.
He was a member of Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church and Fowler American
Legion Post 57, and was a former member of the Goodland Lions Club. He
enjoyed camping, woodworking, welding and mowing the grass.
He is survived by wife Mary Ellen Hollingsworth of Goodland; three
daughters and one son-in-law, Kathleen Clark of Goodland, Mary Lou and Dennis
Stinson of Fowler and Teresa Bernier of Goodland, four sons and three daughtersin-law, Steven Hollingsworth of Lafayette, Charles and Donna Hollingsworth of
Kentland, Jeff and Joyce Hollingsworth of Kentland and William and Julie
Hollingsworth of Goodland; two sisters Katherine Smith of Tuscola, Ill. And
Christina Short of Goodland, 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one
great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Romulo S Jardenil, 72, M.D., of West Lafayette, died at 10:30 p.m.
Thursday, May 13, at his home.
He was born Oct 7, 1931, in Jaroiloilo City, Philippines.
He graduated from the University of Samtuthomas Medical School in the
Philippines.
He married Esperanza L Littua July 17, 1959. She died Dec 29, 1999.
Dr. Jardenil was a physician at the Purdue Health Clinic Hospital for
Students from 1981 until retiring in 1995. He had also practiced medicine in
Kentland.
He was a member of St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in West Lafayette.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dr. David S Jardenil
and Dr Brenda Stenftenagle of Valparaiso and Steve R Jardenil of West Lafayette;
and one daughter and son-in-law, Rafaelita and Paul Chew of Ithaca, N.Y.; and five
grandchildren, Isabella and Allana Jardenil and Marika, Camille and Selena Chew.
Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Soller-Baker West Lafayette
Chapel with a scripture service at 6 p.m.
A funeral mass was conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at St Thomas Aquinas
Church in West Lafayette with the Rev Father Dan David officiating.
Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.

Bethel L. Kendall, 78, of Morocco passed away June 19, at Iroquois Memorial
Hospital in Watseka. Bethel was born Nov. 11, 1931, daughter of the late Kenneth
and Lovella (Hauser) Starnes. She was a lifetime Morocco area resident and
attended the Morocco Public Schools. She married Richard L. Kendal in Lafayette
on Nov. 19, 1949. He died May 8, 2005. Children surviving are Gwenda L.
(Rutledge) Morrison (Mrs. Ron), Catherine L. Grant (Mrs. Craig) and Richard
Kendall (wife, Linda) all of Morocco, Thomas L. and Penny Freeland Kendall of
Montmorenci and James L. Kendall of Indianapolis. There are 13 grandchildren

Lillie Mae Lade
Lillie Mae Lade passed away at her residence on Tuesday, February 7 at 11:18
p.m. She has been in ill health for three weeks, her death being due to natural
causes.
She was born in Morocco, Indiana on January 13, 1922 to Kenneth and Lovella
Hauser Starnes. She was formerly of Morocco, having moved to Attica in 1951.
She attended school at Morocco and was a solderer at R.M.C. here. She was a
member of the Christian Church at Morocco and Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post
3318.
She was married to Cecil M. Lade on October 16, 1941 in Kentland, Indiana.
Surviving besides husband and mother, who resides at Morocco, are one son,
Richard, of Attica, one daughter, Mrs. Donald or Mary Grubb of Attica, two
brothers, Simon Starnes of Lafayette and James Starnes of Tampa, Florida, four
sisters, Mrs. Floyd or Jeanette Hall of Morocco, Mrs. Ralph or Ruby Schultz also of
Morocco, Mrs. Bob or Myrtle Fleming of Tampa, Florida and Mrs. Richard or
Bethel Kendall of Morocco.
Other survivors include four grandchildren.
One son, Jake, preceded her in death.
Services are scheduled for Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Maus Funeral Home in Attica
with Reverend Don Green officiating. Internment will follow at the Riverside
Cemetery in Attica.
Friends may call from 3:00 to 5:00 and from 7:00 to 9:00 on Thursday. A Ladies
Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post memorial service will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Johanna H Lehmann, 93, of Watseka, Ill., died Sunday, Jan 27, 2008 at
Prairieview Lutheran Home, Danforth, Ill. She was born March 10, 1914, in
Milford, Ill., to Philipp and Peterke Luecht Scherf (both deceased). She married
Clifford Lehmann April 28, 1935, in Schwer: he passed July 13, 1986.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed knitting, tatting and oil painting.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine Thomas of Florida;
Lyn and Garry Hixson of Kentland; Harleen and Clay Luther of Olney, Ill; Brenda
Lehmann of Mahomet, Ill.; Sandra Lehmann of Mansfield, Ill.; Donna and Wayne
Anderson of Sheldon, Ill., and Debra and David Kohl of Anderson, Ind.; brother
Raymond Scherf of Orlando, Fl., sisters, Marie Garrelts of Milford, Ill., and Louise
Bruens of Watseka, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and two greatgreat-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, one

Wayne E Mahaffey, 83
Wayne E Mahaffey, 83, of Kentland, died at 6:55 p.m., Tuesday, March 13,
2007 at George Ade Memorial Nursing Home Center in Brook. Born July 12, 1923
in Effingham County, Ill., to the late Wanton and Blanche Griffith Mahaffey.
He was in the United States Navy, serving as the ship’s cook with the
Seabees from July 19, 1943 to November 10, 1945.
He was married to Rita Mathew on June 12, 1951 in Watseka, Ill. And she
died April 13, 2000. Mr. Mahaffey was self-employed in Newton County, later
retiring from the city of Ocala, Florida in 1985.
Surviving are one daughter Linda, one sister, Wanda Lupke of Brook, and a
step-daughter, Jean Molter, husband, Tom of Fowler. Also surviving are several
nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by one daughter, Diane, one brother,
Wyatt Mahaffey and one sister, Jane Walkup.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST on Friday, March 16, 2007, at
Windler Funeral Home, Fowler, with funeral at 1 p.m. EST Rev Tom Carlson
officiated. Interment was at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fowler.

Helen Ramona Smith McCormick, 93, of Westland, Mich., formerly of Raub,
died at 2 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Westland Convalescent Center,
Westland, Mich.
Born July 9, 1912, in Brook, Ind., to the later Fletcher and Bertha Keckler
Smith, she was a graduate of Raub High School in Raub. She also graduated from
the Cook County Nursing School.
She married Wilson J. McCormick on March 3, 1935, and he preceded her in
death in 1968.
Mrs. McCormick was a Registered Nurse licensed in Indiana, Illinois and
Michigan. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Wayne, Mich.;
Eastern Star of Remington, R.N. Club and other civic organizations. She enjoyed
traveling and fishing.
Survivors include, one son, Jerry McCormick of Westland, Mich.; one
daughter, Sue Ann McCormick of Sun City, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by one brother, Paul Smith, and one sister, Emma
Smith Rush.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. CST April 26 at the McMullan-Stitz
Funeral Home in Kentland.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. CST Thursday, April 27, at the Raub
United Methodist Church in Raub with the Rev. Jack Snell officiating.
Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Kentland.

Julia Florence (Haas) Meade, 88
Julia Florence (Haas) Meade, age 88, of Raub, passed away at 4:30 a.m. on
Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at Watseka Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center,
Watseka, Ill.
Born Oct 27, 1918 in Raub to William and Anna (Brown) Haas, she was the
fourth generation in her family born in Raub. Her great-grandparents were from
County Caven Ireland and arrived in the U.S. in 1833 and walked from NYC to
Raub.
She was a graduate of Raub High School and St Vincent Nursing School in
Chicago. After she completed nursing school she joined WAITS, Women’s Air
Corp, Instrument Technicians in Florida, where they installed instrument panels
for the p-38 lightening planes in World War II.
She married Michael Meade in 1948 in Kentland, he died in September
1999. She was the postmistress for the Raub Post Office during the 70’s and 80’s
and sold real estate for Burge Realty for 10 years. She was a member of the St
Joseph Catholic Church of Kentland, Kentland American Legion Ladies Auxiliary,
and the Ladies Home Economics Club of Raub.
Mrs. Meade was a caretaker, she took care of her family and her father and
some other extended family members. She also took care of the Raub area
children, she would host weinie roasts in her backyard, and would take kids
fishing and read them stories. She cared about the children in her community.
Surviving are sons Bill (Avis) Meade of Mt Prospect, Ill., John (Christine)
Meade of Vancouver, BC Canada, and Chuck (Rose) Meade of San Antonia, Texas;
sister Clara “ Sally” McAllister of San Rafael, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by daughters Tresa and Patricia Meade.
Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m., with a 4 p.m. Rosary service, on March
16 at McMullan-Stitz Funeral Home, Kentland. A Mass of Christian Burial was held
at 11 a.m. on March 17 at St Joseph Church, Kentland. Rev Robert Bernotas
celebrated the Mass. Burial was at St Joseph Cemetery, Kentland.

Raymond Leon Molter, 70
Raymond Leon Molter, age 70, of Indianapolis, formerly of Kentland,
passed away at his home on Saturday, Feb 24, 2007.
Born May 8, 1936 in Lafayette to the late Samuel Edward and Margaret
O’Neil Molter, he was a graduate of Goodland High School. He was a graduate of
Purdue University, with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture. At Purdue he was a
member of the marching and symphonic bands. While earning his bachelor’s
degree he founded Molter Landscape Maintenance. After graduation, it grew into
Molter and Wiggs Landscaping.
He married Mary Annis Moyars in 1959.
Mr. Molter worked at National Homes Acceptance Corp and the
Indianapolis Life Insurance co. He moved to Indianapolis in 1969 and worked for
several companies before becoming proprietor of Country Market Products, a
business venture he enjoyed for over 22 years. An avid railroad hobbyist, he
enjoyed travel to historical sites throughout the Eastern United States.
He married Teresa Rund in 1984, she preceded him in death in 2001.
He was a member of the St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church of
Indianapolis, and was active in the Indiana Repertory Theater.
Surviving are three children: Marilyn Eileen Molter Davis of Fort
Lauderdale, Fla., William Raymond (Tonya) Johnson of Markle, and Ann Marie
Molter of Lafayette; five brothers and sisters: Samuel (Genevieve) Molter and
Lloyd (Betty) Molter, both of Kentland, Marceline Buyno of Georgetown, Ill., Rita
Molter of Indianapolis, and Richard (Natalie) Molter of Lafayette.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, March 3, with a 12
p.m. Mass of Christian. Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kentland. Rev Robert
Bernotas officiated. Burial was at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Kentland.
Memorials may be made to the American Association of Cardiovascular and
Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Phyllis M. Morgan
Phyllis M. Morgan, 83, of Morocco died at the Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis on
Wednesday, June 2, 2010. She was born on June 15, 1926, the daughter of John
and Elsie Standish. She was a lifetime resident of the area. She married Gailard
Hickman on July 9, 1945,. He preceded her in death. She then married Robt
Morgan on Dec. 22, 1991. He also preceded her in death.
She graduated from the Mt. Ayr School with the class of 1944. She worked in food
service at the North Newton Schools and was also employed at the Morocco IGA.
She retired in 1990.
She was a member of the Morocco United Methodist Church. She was also a
member of the Pythian Lodge.
She is survived by her children Sandra (Butch - deceased) Cady of Oseola; Dennis
(Linda) Hickman of Morocco; and Dale (Rose) Morgan of Morocco. Also surviving
are siblings Norman (Barb) Standish of Crown Point; Irene (Gene) Faris of
Rensselaer and Jack (Virginia) Standish of Rensselaer.
She was preceded in death by both parents, one brother and four sisters.

Megan A. Nelson, age 20, of Lowell, passed away with her unborn
daughter, Savannah Linley Ann, on Wednesday, March 21, 2007.
Megan was a 2005 graduate of North Newton High School, and an associate
with Donaldson’s Distribution Co. in Rensselaer. Megan was a happy person who
everyone loved.
She is survived by fiancé Stephen Ramirez, Lowell; her father, Dave Nelson,
Thayer, her mother, Melissa Nelson, Rensselaer; her sister, Stacie (fiancé Eric
Chandler) Nelson, Roselawn; two brothers, David James Nelson, Lafayette, and
Johnny Nelson, Thayer. Also surviving are paternal grandparent Violet Nelson,
Thayer; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Judy Sain, Lake Village; maternal
great-grandmother, Cleta Pistorious, Iowa; and niece Hailey Chandler.
Visitation was held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 25. Funeral
services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 26 at Sheets Funeral Home,

Edward Nevitt
Edward Nevitt, 75, of Goodland, Ind. Passed away at Danville, V.A. Medical
Center in Danville, Ill., on Sunday May 4, 2008. He was born on March 10, 1933, in
Goodland. Mr. Nevitt graduated from Goodland High School in 1951. He was
married on Sept 27, 1957, to Joyce L Gray in Greensburg, Ind. She survives.
He was in the US Air Force from 1951-1956. He worked as a gas serviceman
for NIPSCO for 25 years, retiring in 1994. Nevitt belonged to the Goodland First
Baptist Church, Kentland American Legion Hedrick-Brandt Post 23 for 53 years, 28
year member of the Goodland Volunteer Fire Department and Fowler Amvets.
He was preceded in death by parents, Ralph and Pearl Grace Smith Nevitt,
two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include wife Joyce; three daughters,
Belinda B Williams (husband, John David) of Shelbyville, Melinda L Krug (husband,
Shannon) of Goodland and Margie Williamson of Fowler and two sisters, Lorna
Gayle Green, Goodland and Nancy Dearing of Lafayette.

Phyllis Barbara Gordon Northcutt, 75, Monon, formerly of Kentland, died at
5 a.m. May 20 at her home following a five-month illness.
She was born July 16, 1930, in Cayuga, Ind., the daughter of Teddy R
Gordon and Bonedia Foreman Gordon.
She married John Oliver Northcutt Oct 13, 1947, in Kentland. He survives.
Mrs. Northcutt moved from Kentland to Monon in December 1991.
Survivors include four daughters and four sons, Betty (Tom) Chernowsky of
Kentland, Rebecca Northcutt of Kentland, Barbara (Robert) Wayne of Monon,
Patricia (Roy) Cripe of Earl Park, Wayne (Emma) Northcutt of Trinity, N.C., Dennis
(Barbara) Northcutt of Magnolia, Texas, Carl (Patti) Northcutt of Wolcott, David
(Karen) Northcutt of Remington: three brothers and two sisters, Mary Jo Jones of
Hillsdale, Thelma Brown of Hillsdale, Warren (Barbara) Gordon of Hillsdale, Robert
(Ann) Gordon of Ridge Farm, Ill., William (Pat) Gordon of Danville, Ill.; 18
grandchildren and three step grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and eight
step-great-grandchildren; five step great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Rex A Northcutt; one brother,
Teddy L Gordon.

Goodland-Marye R. Olsen, 63, died at 11:08 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010, in
Goodland, where she had lived the past four years. She had previously resided in
Florida.
Born Aug. 2, 1946, in Rensselaer, she was the daughter of Ruth Griffin Hall of
Kentland and the late Lawrence Gene Hall.
On March 8, 1968, she married William J.K. Olsen, and he survives in Pensacola,
Fla.
Mrs. Olsen worked for several years as a legal aide in the Wic Program for the
State of Florida.
She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and enjoyed gardening,
crafts, cooking and her cars.
Surviving are a son, Billy Olsen (wife: Serina) of Oak Ridge, Tenn,: three daughters,
Christy Manning and Rebecca Reed, both of Pensacola, and Melissa Olsen of Oak
Ridge; and a brother, Ralph “Butch” Hall (wife: Donna) of Morocco.
Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, Kathrine, Airel, C’Aira, Dearay, Terri, Kyna,
Johnathan, A.J., Kimberly, Heather and Lani; and one great-grandchildren, Koby.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eugena Ruth Ann Underwood; and 2
brothers, Mark Hall and Lawrence Hall Jr.

William M Parke, Jr., age 80, of Miami Springs, Fla., formerly of Brook,
where he attended high school in the mid-1940s, passed away Feb. 25, 2007 at
the VA Medical Center.
Born April 23, 1926 in Cook County, Ill. To William and Sophia Parke, he had
resided in Miami Springs since 1951.
He was preceded in death by beloved son Gregory, brother Robert, and
sister Shirley Sue.
Surviving with his wife, Shirley Jane Roberts Parke, are sons Thomas and
David (Sue), nephew Richard Sparks (whom Bill referred to as his fourth son),
sister Cecilia, granddaughters Nicole, Melissa, Amanda, Ashley, Michelle and
Sherlyn, grandson Sean David, and great-grandson Daniel Anthony.
Mr. Parke was in the United States Marine Corp. He was a painter and
building contractor. He owned two apartment buildings until his retirement.
His greatest happiness was his wife, sons and grandchildren. He enjoyed
working around the house and creating things. He will be greatly missed now and
forever, and will always be in our hearts.
Visitation was held from 10:30 a.m. until noon on Feb. 28 at Poinciana
United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held at noon, with arrangements
by John Hanks Memorial Services.

Lula M. Peck, 88
Crawfordsville - Lula M. Barton Peck, 88, died at 10 p.m. Monday, July 21, in
Williamsburg Health Care where she had been a resident one year.
Born Oct. 13, 1908, in Owen County, she attended Own County schools. She came
to the Crawfordsville community in 1975.
Mrs. Peck was a binder at R.R. Donnelley for 23 years and retired in 1970.
She was a member of Southside Church of Christ.
Her first marriage was to Edward O. Barton on June 5, 1927, in Owen County. He
died in 1972. On Jan. 4, 1975, she married Clyde Peck, in Crawfordville, and he
died in 1981.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. David (Freda) Layton of Linden; one son, William
Woodrow Barton of Poland, Ind.; and a stepson Loren Peck of Loudon, Tenn.

Geraldine M. "Geri" Putts, age 72, of Rensselaer passed away July 26, 2010 at the
Jasper County Hospital. She was born February 4, 1938, in Rensselaer, the
daughter of Gerald and Dorothy (Downs) Baldwin.
On June 10, 1989, in Rensselaer she married Robert "Bob" Putts who survives.

Pearl Ann Prue, 73, of Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away Wednesday, April 30,
2008 at Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. She was born Jan. 31, 1935, in Hammond,
Ind. She married Alexander J. Prue who died in 1985. She was a homemaker and
enjoyed golf, Rummikub and spending time with her grandchildren and her
friends. She also enjoyed cooking and watching the Food Network.
She is survived by her son Christopher (Laurie) Prue of Fort Wayne; a
brother, William Rzechula Jr., of Merrillville, Ind., and two grandchildren, Garrett
and Wyatt Prue.

Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Gerts Funeral Home in Brook.
Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Richard E
Gerts officiating.
Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Brook.

Col Edmund Eddie George Reuter Jr., 84
Col Edmund “Eddie” George Reuter, Jr., age 84, of Clearwater, Fla., died
Sunday, March 4, 2007 at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, Miami, Fla.
Born January 1, 1923 to the late Edmund George Reuter, Sr., and Katherine
Illingworth Reuter in Goodland, he was a 1940 graduate of Goodland High School.
He attended the University of Maryland’s Foreign Extension Program while
stationed in West Germany and later completed advanced infantry and survival
training at Ft. Benning, Ga, and Ft. Bragg, NC, and the Command and General Staff
College at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.
His marriage was to the late Dorothy “Dottie” Burnett Phillips of Holly Bluff,
Miss. The couple met while stationed in Japan, and wed in Goodland.
Col Reuter was a career veteran, serving in the Army. Upon completion of
Basic Training and Officer Candidate School in 1942, he was sent into the
European Theater of Operations during World War II as a commander of riflemen
with the 94th Infantry Division. He was recipient of 43 medals and commendations
including the Combat Infantry’s Badge with One Star, four Purple Hears, one Silver
Star for Bravery, four Bronze Stars with V for Valor, the Military Merit Citation
with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, and many other campaign awards. He officially
retired at The Presidio, Calif. In 1971 with the full rank of Colonel.
Surviving are five sons, John E. (Patricia) Reuter, Esq. of Cumming, Ga.,
Michael C (Laurie) Reuter of Dawsonvile, Ga., James M Reuter of New Orleans,
La., and Memphis Tenn., Edmund G (Madeline) Reuter III of East Point, Ga. And
Mark R Reuter, Esq. of Coconut Grove, Fla.; two sisters, Delores A Stone (late
husband Milton) of Lafayette and Ruth R Reuter of Goodland; stepgranddaughters Tracey Early of Cumming, Ga. And Crystal Morgan of Butler, Ga.;
step-great-granddaughter Alyssa Early of Cumming, Ga.; several nieces and
nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Katherine (late Oscar) Franson
and Mildred F Reuter of Goodland, and Eileen I Emond of Wolcott.
Interment will be Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. with full
military honors at a later date. A Catholic service will precede his interment.

Tracy R. Riegle (1971-2010)
Tracy R. Riegle, 38, of Brook passed away on Friday, July 2, 2010. She was born on
Nov. 6, 1971, and was a lifetime resident of Brook. She attended South Newton
High School and graduated in 1990.
She was married to David L. Riegle on June 15, 1991, in Morocco. She was a
homemaker and enjoyed playing cards, bingo and bowling. She was an avid
Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching her girls in sporting events.
She is survived by her husband David Riegle and two daughters, Tiphany N. Riegle
and Courtany A. Riegle both living at home; parents, Janice K. Daniels, (husband,
Rodney) of Brook and Gary R. Sanders, (wife, Regina) of Brook. Four brothers also
survive, Wayne Cover (wife, Kindra) Avon; Jeremy Daniels and Jason Daniels both
of Waseka, Ill., and Terry R. Sanders (wife, Glennda) of Brook and one sister,
Teona R. Sanders of Brook; maternal grandparents, Bob and Gloria Shelton of
Brook, and paternal grandparents, George and Linda Cover of Rensselaer, two
nieces and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Gerald and Mildred
Sanders.
Visitation was Tuesday, July 5, 2010, at the Gerts Funeral Home of Brook from 4
to 8 p.m. Funeral services were July 6, at 11 a.m. at the Brook First United
Methodist Church with Rev. Sue Beckett officiating. Burial took place at the
Riverside Cemetery in Brook.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family for her daughters.

Wilma V Robinson
Wilma V Robinson, 93, of Sun Lakes, Ariz., died Monday, Jan 15, in Hospice
of the Valley in Chandler, Ariz., following an extended illness.
She was born on April 7, 1913, and was the daughter of Bruce and Metta
(Hammel) Hanger. She was a 1931 graduate of Morocco High School. She resided
in Morocco for 90 years before moving to Arizona.
In 1935, at Morocco, she married Dan Robinson, who died in 1980.
She was employed as a bookkeeper at Brandt’s Chevrolet for many years.
After retiring, she worked part time for the Newton County Health Department.
She was a member of the United Church of Morocco.
Survivors include son, Sam (Louise) Robinson of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; three
grandchildren, Steve Martin, Susan Edinger and Sheri (Tim) Moakler and two
great-grandchildren, Jack and Sam Moakler. She is also survived by three sisters,
Gartha Clark, Barbara (Don) Clarkson and Dianne Hendryx, all of Morocco. She
also has many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Wilma was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Martin, who died in
1983, her parents and two brothers, David Hanger and Bernard Hanger.
The funeral was held at the United Church of Morocco on Friday, Jan 19
with interment following at Oakland Cemetery. The Steinke Funeral Home of
Morocco was in charge of the arrangements.

Herschel E. Rusher
Herschel E. Rusher, 77, of Kentland and formerly of Hammond, passed away
Monday, Oct 26, 2009, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital, Watseka, Ill.
He was born may 21, 1932, in Fordsville, Ky., the son of the late Robert A. and
bertha (Crowe) Rusher.
Mr. Rusher was a pipe fitter at LTV Steel in East Chicago, retiring in 1980. He was a
veteran of the Korean War, serving four years in the US Air Force.
He was a member of the Fordsville Baptist Church and was a Chicago Bulls fan and
enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Rusher of Kentland, a son, Robert E. (wife:
Peggy) Rusher of Rensselaer; two brothers, Harold (wife: Betty) Rusher of Milford
and Jim (wife: Sandra) Rusher of Hessville. Also, two sisters survive; Katherine
(husband: Gene) Boling of Owensboro, Ky., and Janet Embry of Whitesville, Ky.
One granddaughter, Jessica Rusher, also survives as do several nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, three brothers, and a grandson, Steven
Rusher.
Visitation was Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McMullan-Stitz
Funeral Home in Kentland. A funeral service was held at the McMullan-Stitz
Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, with burial following at the Weston
Cemetery in Rensselaer.

Bethel “Betty” J. Severs
Bethel “Betty” J. Severs age 75, a resident of Morocco since 1938, passed
away on Wednesday, April 29, 2008.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Francis Hayslip, Merle Hayslip,
and Edward Hayslip.
Betty is survived by her husband, Donald E. Severs and children, Howard
(Pat) Severs, Lynn (Bob) Stone, Dave (Terry) Severs, Mark Severs all of Morocco
and Pat Jones of Anderson and sister Doris (Roy) Swartz of Morocco, nine
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Betty Lou Sondgerath
Betty Lou Sondgerath, 72, of Watseka, Ill., formerly of Kentland, died
unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan 30, 2007 at 10:40 p.m. at Iroquois Memorial Hospital,
Watseka.
She was born Dec 18, 1934, in Thawville, Ill., to the late William and
Theresa Ditman Grohler. She was a graduate of A.J. Kent High School, Kentland.
She married Herbert Sondgerath on Feb 27, 1954, and he preceded her in death
on July 7, 1994.
Mrs. Sondgerath had resided in Watseka since 1995 moving there from
Kentland. She was the manager of Lakeview Senior Community, Watseka, she had
also worked for PCA, Country Inn, Federal Land Bank and Kentland Nursing Home,
all in Kentland. She was a member of the Young Democrats and Modern Mothers
Home Ec Club. She enjoyed gardening and reading.
She is survived by daughters Vickie Sondgerath of Falls Church, Va., Susan
(husband) Dale) Green of Remington, Nena Sondgerath of Sacramento, Calif.: son
Gerald (wife Rhonda) Sondgerath of Remington; grandchildren Breanna Green
Rogers of Frankfort, Benjamin Green of Carmel, Ind., Jacob Hollen of Ft Sill, Okla.,
Dustin Sondgerath of Watseka; brother Harold (Joann) Grohler of Charleston, S.C.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

He was born June 24, 1964.

David was a 1982 graduate of North Newton High School and played
baseball, football and trumpet in the school band.
He joined the Air Force in 1983 and after 10 years of service in air traffic
control was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.
He started working for IBM in Denver, Colorado, as a programmer and at
TCI a senior programmer. TCI then set up a company called Intessera and David
was asked in January 1998 to manage the programming operations at a new
office in Moscow, Russia.
He started his own computer programming company, International
software Consultants, after TCI/Intessera decided they no longer wanted an office
in Moscow.
David liked anything pertaining to computers, loved to travel, play football,
and was a Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears Fan.
Memorial services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lake Village
Presbyterian Church, with cremation following at Lake Village Cemetery.
David was a good husband, father, son, and brother. He loved life and was
loved by all who knew him.

James R Spradlin
James R Spradlin, 72, Kentland, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2006, AT
8:35 a.m. at his residence, following an extended illness.
The oldest of three children, he was born May 16, 1934, in Charleston,
W.V., to the late Jim and Ruth Walton Spradlin.
James was a graduate of Du Pont High School in Charleston, W.V. After high
school, he enrolled into the West Virginia Institute of Technology, where he
earned an accounting degree in Business Management.
On Aug 14, 1956, he was united in marriage to Rosa Flowers, and she
survives.
In 1968, Jim and Rosa moved to Loudon, Tenn., where he continued his
career with Union Carbide (Viskase) as comptroller. In 1977, Jim accepted an
internal company transfer and moved his family to Kentland. Jim retired in 1989
after 32 years of uninterrupted employment.
Jim was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Kentland, where
he served on the Administrative Council and served as treasurer on the Finance
Committee. He also taught Sunday School for more than 15 years, ushered and
was liturgist. He was also a former member of the Kentland Masonic Lodge. His
hobbies included golf, computers and being with his family.
Survivors include: one daughter, Debra (Bill) Hines of Kentland;
grandchildren Ashley, Tyler and Garrett Hollingsworth and Destiny Hines; stepgrandchildren, Clayton and Logan Hines; great-granddaughter Taliyah Montoya;
sisters, Ruth Nida of Charleston, W.V., and Frances Webb of Cleveland, Ohio;
nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. May 23 at the McMullan-Stitz Funeral Home
in Kentland and one hour prior to funeral services May 24 at the church.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. May 24 at the Trinity United Methodist
Church in Kentland with the Rev Joseph Smith officiating.
Internment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Kentland.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Spradlin’s name have been established at
Trinity United Methodist Church, Kentland.

Lovella Starnes
Word has been received of the death of Lovella Starnes, a former Owen County
resident who had lived at Morocco many years.
Funeral services were at Morocco, March 17.
Mrs. Starnes died at her home March 14.
She was born in Owen County. Her parents were Sanford and Lucy Hauser.
Her husband, Kenneth Starnes preceded her in death several years ago. One
daughter also preceded her in death.
Four daughters and two sons survive.
She is also survived by an aunt, Mrs. Fred Criss of Spencer; a cousin, Mrs. L. Jeff
Franklin of Spencer, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Albert Gentry of Spencer.

Kenneth Starnes, 72, Dies at Morocco
Kenneth Starnes, 72 years old, of Morocco, but a native of Owen County, died
Saturday night in the Veterans' Hospital, in Maywood, Illinois, after a lengthy
illness.
He was born January 9, 1894, in Owen County, a son of the late Simon and Lillie
Brown Starnes.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Lovella Hauser Starnes, to whom he had been
married for 45 years; seven children; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Gentry and Mrs.
Marie Lawson, both of Spencer; two brothers, Dewey A Starnes of Spencer and
Robert Starnes of Indianapolis.
Funeral rites were held Tuesday afternoon in the Hancock Chapel in Morocco.
Interment was made in a Morocco Cemetery.

Dorothy Stombaugh
Dorothy M. Sell Stombaugh, 86, of Seymour, formerly of Goodland and
Monticello, died at 8:20 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Schneck Memorial Hospital
in Seymour.
Born April 11, 1924, in Goodland, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Olive
Luse Sell. She was a 1942 graduate of Goodland High School.
On June 14, 1943, she married Richard E. Stombaugh in Goodland, and he
survives.
Mrs. Stombaugh was a food service supervisor for Twin Lakes School Corp. from
1963 until retiring in 1983.
She was a past member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Monticello
and Church of the Blessed Sacrament in West Lafayette. She was a member of
NIPSCO Retirees Service Club and enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, crocheting,
and making homemade chicken and noodles.
Surviving with her husband are two sons, Irvin D. Stombaugh (wife: Elsie M.) of
Thomasboro, Ill., and Barry L. Stombaugh (wife: Denise M.) of West Lafayette; a
daughter, Kathleen A. Jackson (husband: Ed) of Seymour; three brothers, Pete Sell
of Brook, Robert Sell (companion: Dee Wagner) of Rensselaer and Charles Sell
(wife: Janice) of Goodland; and two sisters, Helen Cox of Atwood and Leona Elbert
(husband: Bill) of West Lafayette.
Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by 2 brothers, Earl and Jim Sell.

Charles F. Tagg, 71
Fowler - Charles Fred Tagg, 71, of Fowler, died at 1:22 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, in St.
Elizabeth's Hospital in Lafayette. He had been ill for the past year.
Mr. Tagg owned and operated his own farm until retiring in 1987, and he worked
at Henry's Speedway in Chase.
Born June 6, 1924, in Lafayette, he lived in Benton County all of his life and was a
1942 graduate of Pine Township High School. He married Doris A. Hall in Fowler in
1948. She survives.
Mr. Tagg was a member of the Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post,
American Legion Post 57 and 40&8, all in Fowler, and CBI in Lafayette. A World
War II veteran, he served in the Air Corps from 1942 until 1945.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Mrs. Edzel (Becky) Eads Jr. and Mrs.
Rudy (Vania) Alaniz, both of Lafayette, and Mrs. Donald (Rita) Barnard of Fort
Myers, Fla.; and a son, DeWayne C. Tagg of Fort Myers.

Hazel H Thurston, 96, of Brook, passed away June 14th. Gerts Funeral Home

Valeria Trout
Valeria Trout, age 96, of Paxton, Ill., passed away at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb 8,
2007 at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana, Ill.
Born Anna Valeria Telfer on Aug 4, 1910 on “The County Chairman Farm”
of George Ade, at Brook, she was the youngest child of Arthur and Laura Sterner
Telfer. She attended schools in White County and college in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
She married Martin Trout on April 21, 1931. He preceded her in death on July 15,
2002.
For several years, Martin and Val owned the Maytag Store in Paxton before
moving to Mattoon, Ill., in 1950. After the children left home, Val worked for 20
years as a caregiver to the elderly in Mattoon. She was a member of the Mattoon
Presbyterian Church, and since returning to Paxton, attended the Paxton Church
of Christ. Since April 2005, Heartland Health Care was called home, and she had
many friends there. The loving care of the Heartland staff made Val’s last two
years wonderfully happy and comfortable. She was an avid antique collector and
enjoyed making friends at auctions and yard sales. Her real joy was that of being a
professional mother and homemaker. Though she resided in Illinois for many
years, she considered herself a life-long Hoosier.
Surviving are two sons, Dick (Elaine) Trout of Crawsfordsville and David
(Justine) Trout of Loda, Ill.; three grandchildren, Leisa, Jeff, and Laura; two stepgrandchildren, Randy and Kevin; and 10 great-grandchildren, all of Indiana.
Private services were held Friday at the Church of Christ in Paxton with Rev
John Davenport officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Riverside
Cemetery in Brook.
Memorials may be made to the Activity Fund at Heartland Health Care
Center in Paxton, Ill.

Charles “Cap” Wann
Charles “Cap” Wann, 65, a lifetime resident of Thayer, passed away on Saturday,
July 24, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kathy, and faithful canine
companion, Jackie. Also surviving are in-laws, Flick and Fairy Sayers; sister-in-law,
Connie Davich, brothers-in-law; Dick, Victor (Pam), Jack (Nancy), Garry, Dave
(Andrea), Robbie and Brent (Louise); as well as special friends Ed White and
Melody Pearson; cousin, Jim Hockney and a host of nieces and nephews and
friends.
Cap was a proud and stubborn democrat. A 1963 graduate of Mt. Ayr High School,
he served as a National Guardsman, 1964-68, and was a 40 year Lincoln Twp.
Volunteer Fire Dept. charter member with 25 years as chief, and was involved
with many community projects. He dedicated his life to helping others. He
enjoyed coins and flea markets.
He worked for LTV Steel for 20 years and owned and operated Lincoln Twp.

Jerry Webb -- Princeton
Jerry R. Webb, 64, of Princeton, formerly of Watseka, died Sunday (Feb. 19, 2006)
as a result of an automobile accident near Moweaqua. Visitation will be from 4-8
p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. funeral service at
Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka. Rev. Joe Hughes will officiate.
Burial, with military rites accorded by Watseka American Legion Post 23 and
Iroquois VFW Post 6450, will be in Iroquois Memorial Park, Watseka. Memorials
may be made to the donor's choice.
Mr. Webb was a self-employed contractor for many years. He was born Dec. 21,
1941, in Marion, the son of Solly and Etta Marie Sanson Webb. He served in the
U.S. Navy, was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Watseka, a
member of Princeton Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing.
Surviving are his wife, the former Donna K. Hall of Princeton, whom he married
March 5, 1966, in Watseka; one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Michael
Glover of Cullman, Ala.; one son, Richard Webb of Indiana; three grandchildren;
two sisters and one brother-in-law, Janice and Harry Biesterfeld of Peotone,
Phyllis Patterson of Bourbonnais; one brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Hazel
Webb of Marion; one sister-in-law, Lory Hall of Watseka; one brother-in-law,
William Hall of Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents are deceased.

Bonnie Whaley (1921-2010)
Bonnie Whaley, 89, of Lowell, Ind., died at 9:13 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2010 at St.
Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point. She was born March 8, 1921, in Onargo,
Ill., to the late Otto and Viola Kincaid. She graduated from Onargo High School.
Her marriage was to Harold Whaley Jr. in September 1958, in Remington, Ind. He
survives.
She lived in Lowell most of her life, where she was a homemaker. She had also
lived in Brook. She enjoyed cooking, as well as reading new cookbooks, she also
enjoyed fishing and watching television.
Surviving with her husband are four sons, Steve Whaley of Lowell, Bob Hornickel
(wife: Cathy) of Kentland, Gary Hornickel (wife: Laura) of Decatur, Ill., and John
Hornickel of Redondo Beach, Calif.
She is preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Hornickel, and a sister, Rosie Gibson.
Friends may call from 12 (noon) - 2 p.m., Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Stitz-Clapper
Funeral Home in Kentland, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Interment
to follow at Fairlawn Cemetery in Kentland.

Trennis R. Yoder
Trennis R. Yoder, 92, of Wheatfield, passed away Jan. 28, 2008, at the
Rensselaer Car Center. He was born on Sept. 6, 1915, in Newton County, to Simon
and Katie (Nissley) Yoder. Trennis had lived in Mt. Ayr and most recently in
Wheatfield. He lived a long fulfilling life.
He retired after 32 years as a millwright with U.S. Steel in Gary. Trennis was
a member of the Burr Oak Mennonite Church and the local steel workers union.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling and pitching horseshoes.
His first marriage was to Leonia Carroll on June 14, 1941, in Kentland and
they were married 52 years. She preceded him in death on April 24, 1994. His
second marriage was to Hilda R. Taylor in October, 1994, in Rensselaer.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda Yoder; sons, Allen (Debra L.) Yoder, of Ft.
Pierce, Fl, and Martin (Carol) Yoder of Brook; brother, Albert (Hilda M.) Yoder, of
Morocco; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson;
stepsons, Allen (Lorraine) Wildrick of Valparaiso and Joseph Wildrick of Wanatah
and stepdaughter Susan (David) Shook of Butler, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, a son Trenner G.
Yoder, a daughter Vicky R. Yoder, four brothers and two sisters.
The family received friends at Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer of
Friday, Feb 1, from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services were Saturday, Feb 2, at 10:30 a.m.
at Jackson Funeral Chapel with Pastor Philip Leichty officiating. Interment
followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Burr Oak
